Alan Whitham b1894 & Denis Whitham b 1897

The above brothers appear on both the 1901 and 1911 with their parents Harold & Alice Mary Whitham nee Haworth. Alan was born in Rawtenstall and by the time Denis was born the family had moved to Urmston Manchester.
The mystery is that on the 1939 census only Alice Mary remained at that house and described as a widow but I can't find a death for Harold. Also the sons are not present in 1939 so either were both in the military or had previously died or had emigrated. Just can't pin them down.
Any help would be appreciated.

When Alice Mary died 30 Oct1945 (still at same address) probate was granted to Alan Witham - master printer, so maybe it was a mis transcription on his fathers probate (painter?)

The 1939 shows him as a master Printer too

Hi Flip. How did you manage to see the Probate of Alice please? I don't see it on FMP. Did you see it on another site?

Flip

Flip Report 19 Mar 2017 11:44

I use this site - Probate was granted in 1946, it's always best to try the year after a late death.

https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/Calendar#calendar

Just search 1946 for Witham and you should find it

Edit, not sure if that link works - this is the website address

Found it. Thans Flip. I don't understand why the name Witham was sometimes shown
as Whitham.
