Eleanor Waller 1839

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

John

John Report 22 Mar 2017 14:44

I have found in GRO that Eleanor Waller was registered in Dunmow in 1/4 June 1839 with the mothers maiden name as Hockley. I can find no other children born to Waller and Hockley.

In Essex Archives I have managed to find a baptism in Little Easton 30 June 1839 Ellenor Waller parents Charles and Charlotte Waller abode Little Easton father a bricklayer.

In Essex Archives I have found a marriage trace for a Charles Waller to a Charlotte Grout in Little Easton on 2 November 1838 Charles Waller, full age, single, bricklayer, abode Little Easton, father John a bricklayer Charlotte Grout, full age, widow, abode Great Easton, father Thomas Everett a labourer. Both made a mark, witnesses William Taylor? And Kezia Waller? both made a mark.

Both entries found in Little Easton parish register seem to tie into Eleanor who was registered in June 1839 if it was not for the mothers maiden name being recorded as Hockley.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Thanks

John

That appears to be Eleanor and Charles in 1841.

It was finding Eleanor in this 1841 census that first started me on trying to trace her. When first looking it is easy to assume that she is the daughter of John and Susannah but there is too much of a gap between Eleanor and their other children and Susannah would be about 62.

So I wanted to try and find whose child she is. The parish records suggest Charles and Charlotte but it is the GRO record that is confusing it by having the mothers maiden name as Hockley.

Yes it could be 2 separate Eleanors but where is the other GRO registration and where is the other Eleanor in 1841.

edit ------- he was a bricklayer

perhaps ellinor was left with her grandparents after her mother died

John

John Report 22 Mar 2017 16:18

So Charlotte died about 6-9 months after the birth of Eleanor.

No I do not have a birth cert for Eleanor, just the GRO details.

John

John Report 22 Mar 2017 16:25

So in 1841 there is a Charles Waller living with his parents in Little Easton as posted by Maddie at 14:48 and another one living with the Ross family in Great Easton as posted by Maddie at 16:02.

It looks as though the Charles living with the Ross family marries one of the daughters.

This could be the same Charles or there could be 2 Charles.

Charles Weller that marries Hannah Collin is not him. I have just checked the parish register for Little Easton and this Charles is shown as single and a blacksmith with his father as Zachariah.

The Charles that marries Jane Ross in Great Easton is described as a widower, bricklayer with his father as John also a bricklayer.

Can anybody explain the Hockley connection?

Maddie

Maddie Report 22 Mar 2017 17:07

just thinking aloud, the charles in the newsparer article had a wife and 3 childre. Wife could not have been charlotte if she died 1940. Who were the 3 children ???

Maddie I think you could be right that does appear to be Jane has remarried.

I have found 4 of the Waller children in GRO with mothers maiden name as Ross - Edward, Julia, Frederick and Sarah.

I agree it is odd the article states 3 children, when at the time they only had 2.

So Does Charles die before this re-marriage and not in 1864
