Gillikins Report 15 May 2017 11:45

Dear Folks,
I cannot find Edward Long in 1851. Does anyone have any ideas? Trouble is he was a journeyman..
His first wife Mary Lampard must have died before 1852, as he remarried. I have census details for the Lampard relatives, but cant find him there.

Don't know his exact death date or place...

Here's what I have so far...
EDWARD LONG,
Baptism record .. DATE: 27th December, 1815
Christening place.. Warminster, Wiltshire
Fathers name.. William Long (ironmonger)
Mothers name.. Maria (maiden name?)
Death of Edward uncertain, but probably before 1871, and
probably in Somerset, unless he was travelling, as Amelia is in Bath, in 1871, as a widow.

William Long married Maria Bethell at St. Denys, Warminster, 1806 (no exact date ..
siblings' baptisms.?..
Sarah Maria Long, 23.10.1811 at St. Denys, Warminster
Eliza Long 29.12.1813 at Warminster
Edward 1815, given above

Edward LONG married Mary LAMPARD on 1st December 1838, Bath, Somerset
Both of them live at 46 Walcott Street, Bath, Somerset
Her father William Lampard, solicitor
His father William Long, ironmonger

FreeCEN 1841 ...............
Piece: HO107/380/2 Place: Cirencester Borough -Gloucestershire Enumeration District: 5
Civil Parish: Cirencester Ecclesiastical Parish: - Folio: 25 Page
Address: Black Jack Street
LONG Edward M 25 J.man Ironmonger Outside Census Co
LONG William M 1 Gloucestershire
LONG Mary F 25 Outside Census Co
LONG Maria F 50 Outside Census Co

Edward is married to Mary (nee Lampard). I don't have a copy of the marriage cert.
Maria is Edward's mother, who may be a widow in 1841..

where is Edward Long in 1851?
William, if alive, would be 11...
His wife Mary might have died before then.
However, their second son, Henry Lambert Long was born in 1847 in Driffield, Yorkshire.

This is probably Henry Lampard Long in 1851 with Grandma...
1851.. (definitely 1851), 32 Broad Street, Bath, St. Michael,
Mary LAMBERT head, 59 annuitant b. Somerset, Camley
Henry L. Long grandson age 4 scholar b. Dryfield, Yorks.
...there are other people in the house ...

but where is Edward Long, wife Mary and William in 1851? ,.. is this them? (question to self)

1851 Dudley Parish, borough of Dudley,Worcestershire, 15 Constitution Hill
Edmund LONG head mar 36 Clerk to Ironmerchant b. Cambridge, Leverington ?
Mary LONG wife mar 40 - b.Worcs., Broadly ?
William LONG son 10 b.Worcs. Dudley
Thomas E. Long son 8 "
Henry LONG son 3 "
Edward A. LONG son 8 months "
I found a baptism for this "Edmund" as Edward Long at Leverington, Cambridgeshire, of Willliam Long and Mary Shepherd. Similar names, but I think this is not our Edward somehow, despite the occupation... date of baptism 15th Feb. 1815 (FreeREG)

Edward LONG married Amelia HURST on 15th June, 1852 at S. Paul's, Bedford.

Their child Frederick Hurst Long was baptised in Swaffham, putting them there in 1856.

1861 lives at 19 Spruce Street, Hulme, Manchester, St. Pauls and is married to Amelia.
Edward Long 45 assistant ironmonger, b. Warminster, Wiltshire
Amelia Long 40 wife b. Bedford, Bedforshire
Henry L Long 13 cabinet maker b. Driffield, York
Frederick H 7 scholar b. Bedford, Bedforshire
George E 3 scholar b. Colchester, Essex

Edward was probably dead before 1871, as Amelia is a seamstress and in prison in 1881..

Cheers.. G

Thanks..this looks good. Mary had a sister Phillis...and brother John, so very likely this is their child.
Phillis lampard born 1831, was an unmarried servant in 1851 in bath.
She was found at Walcott street, with her mother and brother in 1841.
Thanks very much..
