Was she adopted, in which case her birth would be registered under a completely different name?

The only William Hesketh born 1909 in Wigan who shows up on Ancestry is a child who died aged 4 in 1914.

Possibly an illegitimate birth, though can't tell, as GRO website doesn't give mmns (or not, if illegitimate) after 1922.

Would fit with marriage in Ince - but not your mention of Kent as birthplace.

Is Kent what Olwen claimed?

Can't see that couple in 1939.

They may have had two children, registered in Ince, 1937 and 1938.


There are a couple of other Hesketh/Jones marriages 1929-1937 in other parts of Lancashire, but those couples are traceable in 1939.
Robert and Hannah, St Helens, have a closed record with them - presumably the child born in St Helens in 1938.
Peter D and Sarah J, Fylde, don't have any children or closed records with them in 1939..

I have been playing around with name combinations but sidetracked because a tree on ancestry has her father as William

But bear in mind - it's not Kent, and not 28 Jan 1930.
And that 1929 birth may not have been illegitimate - you'd need the cert to be sure.

Re Annie & James Hesketh's children 1937 and 1938 -

(but realising this family may be a complete red herring!)

The 1938 son may have married in Ince in 1958.
