Find Ancestors

I seem to be having difficulty in finding info on the following can anyone help ?.
On the 1871 cencus it shows Thomas Hedges and wife together with Edward Hedges age11 nephew and Mary Lewis age 11 niece I would like to find details of their parents if possible, any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

The surname on the census is EDGES

Look for Edward’s birth on the GRO site for MMN, then look for marriage of parents
Look at 1861 census for all of them

Yes the name is missing the H.

This may sound silly to you, but l am not sure what you mean check for births on the GRO site for MMN .I apologise for not quite understanding.

Find what is probably Edward’s birth in 1959 in Cardiff district and if his parents were married, the MMN will be recorded

MMN means mother's maiden name.


However, Edward's birth was illegitimate ( if the mother had been married, her maiden name would be where the dash is), therefore his mother's name was also Hedges:

His mother is presumably a sister of Thomas.

That child is also with her parents in 1881 and 1891, but not in 1871, which would fit.
