Irish research is so much easier nowadays and the Catholic parish registers are now on line.

Have you looked at Search/ all members trees. There is a Karina with a Mary Connor 1843 - there are other people wit possibly the same Mary born 1843.

How did you work back to this person?

Karen doesn't seem to have a tree on GR - or at least not one listing Mary.
Mary isn't on any tree on Ancestry.

Begorrah! I put in 43 instead of 33 and found Karina who could have been the Karen mentioned by Rose.

I always seem to miss hit numbers on my iPad.

Any likelihood of Mary coming over to England/ Scotland where she might be picked up on the census?

Added: there seem to have been a lot of Mary Connors baptised in Kerry around that time. The date you have given is a baptismal date not a date of birth.

The transcription of the Catholic Parish Register baptism entry which I posted above gives her age as 0 at baptism - but the original document (viewable on Ancestry) doesn't give an age.

We therefore don't know her year of birth.

As already asked - how did you work back to her?
Did she marry? Have children?

On her GR tree, Rose also has:

James Connor 1865 , born Ireland - but of course no other detail to allow us to see how he might relate to Mary.

EDIT:
No, sorry! That's a different Rose, so no connection.

Good morning - the sun is shining

ArgyllGran Mary Connor is my Gt. Gt.Grandmother. I had her marriage certificate and worked back from that.
I had been given some details but wanted to verify. I had been trying to check back when covid started and have only just looked through my group records again. I found a bit of information on Family Search.

Mary Connor was married to Alexander Lindsay 21/8/1854 Church of Woolwich, Kent. According to census records had 5 children.
Elinor/Ellyn/Ellen 1855
Margaret Jane 1857
Samuel 1859
Lucy/Louisa 1862 My Gt.Grandmother
Patrick Alexander 1867
.
Very interested in her Mothers name which I hadnt been able to find as was looking for Ellen Gna. You have given me Hel Guas so I need to look for her. Thank you

Patrick Connor am thinking could be christened 1/4/1811 Kilarney, Kerry. with Father Wm Connor and Mother Mary Sullivan?

James Connor?? He isnt mentioned on my group record and all Marys children were born in UK. I need to look at this now

Thank you all so much for your help. ArgyllGran you always come up trumps for me

So, you had her marriage cert............it would have been helpful to give us her father's details from it at the start............... :-S :-S

Children...................from the GRO site. FREE to all. Well worth making a note

Rose, please remember that the Catholic registers would have been written in Latin. But am struggling with the Ellen Gna to Hel Guas.

Added: I can’t read the baptismal record for one of the children but it does seem that a lot of abbreviations were used.

Note that. My great aunt Helen was recorded on all census as Ellen.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 31 Jan 2023 14:19

The names Helen and Ellen are pretty much interchangeable on old records, sometimes depending on how the clerk thought it should be spelled, which could depend on the local accent..
Elinor/Eleanor are also variations of Helen and Ellen - as is the case with Mary's daughter. She's Ellen in 1861 census, Ellyn in 1871, and was born Elinor:

LINDSAY, ELINOR mmn CONNOR
GRO Reference: 1855 S Quarter in GREENWICH Volume 01D Page 535

Gna and Guas are just how transcribers have read the handwriting - which isn't easy to make out.

For our reference:

Mary Connor
in the London, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1938
Name: Mary Connor
Gender: Female
Record Type: Marriage
Marriage Date: 21 Aug 1854
Marriage Place: St Mary Magdalene, Woolwich, Greenwich, England
Father:
Patrick Connor [ farmer ]
Spouse: Alexander Lindsay [ Father: Peter Lindsay, labourer ]
Register Type: Parish Register

Unfortunately,1861,1871 and 1881 censuses only give "Ireland" as Mary's birthplace, which isn't a lot of help.

What makes you think the Mary born in Castleisland is the right one?

Mary's year of birth is given as c1834 on the 1861 census, as c1831 in 1871, and c1833 in 1881 census, so we can't even be sure about that.

Re James Connor 1865 -

SORRY! It's a different Rose who has him on her tree - so no relation!
