Find Ancestors

I am researching my Davidson relatives in Cumberland area who were in the weaving trade (Usually Cotton & Gingham) I have some details, but wish to tie up loose ends where possible!

Looking for the above Ellenor & Joseph Wison on census 1871 onwards.

Elleanor (Spelt varios ways) b c1820 to John Davidson & Matilda Henderson in Cumberland. (One of 9? children) !

I have her with her family in 1841, living in Oulton, nr Wigton, Cumberland
Ref - HO107/166 folio 4, page 8. (1841)

Elleanor & Joseph married 4 November, 1843 in Wigton, Cumberland.

1851 they were living in Fleming Square, Crosscanonby & Maryport, Cumberland.
Ref - HO107/2435 folio 469 page 23

Jane Stubbs, neice is with them - No one else !!

1861 They are in St. Helens Street, Cockermouth, Cumberland
Ref - RG9/3934 folio 6 page 8

I cannot find them after this on any census, or even deaths etc..

Can anyone please help with this??

Have you considered whether they moved to Scotland ( you would need to search on Scotlands People) or whether they emigrated?

namelessone - I hadn't honetly thought of that !! Should have considered it, considering it is very close to Scotland......

But you need SP for BMD info

4 Ancestry trees have Joseph and Eleanor, but nothing after 1861.

FMP census covers Scotland 1841-1901 and not seeing them there.

Too early for online Emigration records which start at ?1890

So, maybe they went to USA??

Joseph is a lead miner.

So that is the 1871 census. Probably not the same people as Joseph was a shoe maker and there is no sign of a child in 1861.

A possibility for sure but the age of Joseph is 10 years out and don't know about the daughter as she isn't on previous censuses.

She could be a daughter of a previous marriage if there was one....??

There’s a death on freebmd in 1864 in Cockermouth for Eleanor Wilson. Check GRO site for the age, unless you’ve already ascertained age at death

She is aged 0 years!

You say the marriage was in 1843. A girl aged 18 in 1871 would have been born c1852/3

According to Ancestry - Eleanor Davison (Not Davidson ! ) married Joseph Wison 4t November 1843, Wigton....

Freebmd give them as Davison and Wilson. Probably some mistranscriptions but Davison and Davidson are often written either way.

The family with Sarah Ann Wilson is definitely the wrong one.

Sarah in 1871 census was born in Caldbeck.
