Does anyone have a ROGER HOLDEN or HOLDING in their family who was murdered in Hurst Green, Lancashire around 1834. He was born c 1794 and married to a Mary.
I have been told that I have a family link with either Roger or Mary but I can't make the connection.

Any information would be welcome. Thank you

Mary was hanged at Lancaster castle in 1834. I am anxious to know if she left any children, or even if she had any sublings. Her maiden name could have been Clayton.

I do already hold a library card. How do I use this to access the 19th century newspapers ?

Jonesey you're a star !
Found several articles about the trial in 1834, one of which mentions the fact that Roger and his wife Mary had 2 children "one of which is living".
So at least I know am I not looking for information which doesn't exist .... always a bonus !
All I have to do now is discover who that child was.
Thanks again.

Thanks to a very kind GR member who sent me a a list of records from Stoneyhurst parish up to 1836, I now have it confirmed that Mary Holden (hanged in 1834) was indeed formerly Mary Clayton.
She and Roger Holden had a son Robert 1828 (who died aged 4) and a daughter Ellen in 1831 .
I am now anxious to find out who Ellen married.
Always more difficult trying to go forward rather than tracing backwards.

Thanks to Valerie for sending a 1841 list of Holdens in Stoneyhurst area.
Ellen aged 8 is listed as an inmate of Aighton Workhouse.
I'd dearly love to find out who she married.

Sorry I don't know her parents either.
All I have is that she was Mary Clayton when she married Roger Holden/ Holding.

If you want to PM me your dad's details, we may have a link.
