Find Ancestors

Hi - I am tracing the family of Elizabeth Maria Ashton born 1838 Manchester (Canning Street). Parents James Ashton (Cotton Spinner) and Sarah Ann Cave. Elizabeth married William Duffy in 1856 and her address was 15 Chrystal Street, Hulme. On 1861 census, her mother Ann was still living there as a widow. After that Ann disappears. Could anyone find a marriage entry for James and Sarah, it would be prior to 1837 as it is not on ancestry bmd. Also, I cannot trace any of the family on 1841 or 1851 census, so do not know if there were more children. Many thanks, Claire

Hi I also found that one - it was the only one with all three names but wasn't sure on the location as Elizabeth was born in central manchester, and Hulme is on the inner edge. Dukinfield is on the outer edge. Also Ann is listed as born in Manchester on 1861 and on the 1851 you found it says Yorkshire. That is why I need their marriage to give me a definate guide to their location and ages prior to the birth. I might try ordering one of those childrens births just to see what Sarah's maiden name is !! Many thanks, Claire

Sorry Claire but who is Ann

Hi Julie Ann was Elizabeth's mother. That is how she was listed on 1861 census - although her name was Sarah Ann, as I said previously. Sorry for confusing you ! Claire
