No, that's right. I scrolled down (and up and sideways lol!) but definitely only the one maiden name. I'm trying to come in from another angle now. Did your gran die in 1991? Only I looked up the deaths and found a Kathleen Busby died Hendon November 1991 and her year of birth was 1910 not 1912. If it's the same one, I'll look for the various names in 1910 (Williams, Wolstoncroft). Mandy :) UPDATE: I've checked 1910 births for Wolstoncroft and Williams....and found a Kathleen Williams registered Hendon in the Dec quarter of 1910. I imagine this is the one, because it would be too much of a coincidence to have two Kathleen Williams ending up as Kathleen Busbys!

Hi CZ Ok, I've checked the two sisters and you're quite right, they only have Williams as the mother's maiden name, no mention of Wolstoncroft at all. Will keep going ....! Mandy :)

LOL Joan - my hubby's just gone to bed and now snoring away, so won't notice if I stay up late! I hadn't thought about that other 'W' - could be Wolstoncroft. I thought I'd write everything down in order and in one place, and see if I could get any further. Definitely in for a long night...got your flask and rug?! Mandy :)

Mandy, I was just having the same thought as you about the elder children. I found the marriage of Busby to Williams in 1935. Apparently the C stands for Charlotte and I was wondering if the W stood for Wolstencroft. I love a mystery too. Looks like it could be a long night...... I'd better put hubbie to bed, Hee Hee

Hi CZ I've just looked at your other thread, and you mentioned that your grandparents were married 10 years before your Mum was born. Is the Busby to Williams marriage in 1935 therefore the correct one, or should I look back a bit further? Also, which years were your aunties born in (if you don't mind me asking), I'm just putting things on paper in the right order. Mandy (aka Very Determined lol!)

The registration district for your mother's birth was Hendon, and these registers should now be with Barnet Register Office. Is this one of the ones you have contacted? If not then the phone number is 020 8731 1100. Kath. x

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 3 Mar 2007 23:46

cant find a Wolstoncroft /Williams marriage 1909-1912. Perhaps they didnt marry because she was still married to Thomas gordon. . They could have reg the the baby as if they were married. Seems very likely the mother kate pogson is the one , big coincedence she was married to a Wolstoncroft if not Shirley

Mandy go to the bottom of the page its an extra entry

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 3 Mar 2007 23:42

I think I would be inclined to ring the relevant register office and ask them to give you all the reasons why an entry would be like this - (although I know London offices are not always very helpful with family history queries). I could understand it if your mother was the first child, but if there are others before and after her birth with just the one mother's maiden name next to it, then I don't understand it at all. Maybe the registrar could give a simple explanation. Kath. x

Sorry CZ, didn't scroll down! I probably shouldn't be helping anyone tonight, I'm in dopey mode and likely to make things even more confusing lol! Will keep trying though, I like a good puzzle, Mandy :)

Hi CZ This has got me intrigued, so I thought I'd join in and see if I could offer anything of use. I started by checking your Mum's birth (sept quarter 1941) and in the index, it only gives mother's maiden name as Wolstencroft. Where did 'or Williams' come from - your Mum's birth certificate? Mandy :)
