Hi Willow Yes, that looks good. I am using 1837 site, which is now Find my Family. The time is right for all that was going on with other children? Plus his age? Janice x

Hi Willow Great Minds think alike, I have asked Wanda this before but noy got the info, Wanda is getting bogged down with all this I think. Think we best keep posting what we get, so we all know? That is why I posted my information, many hands make light work and all that? Or is it too many cooks spoil the broth. Janice x

Just been on phone to my mum and cousin to see if they could give any snippets of info that might help....Both said that Harold Brierley went missing for periods of time(INFO GAINED FROM MY DAD AND HIS BROTHER before they both died) Dad thought perhaps he went to prison... or perhaps he was running himself stupid between his wives? Wanda.xx Thanks OC had a look and it says Arnold but he was newly born so perhaps they just gave a name and then changed it after.

Wanda If you think about it, Arnold and Harold could easily be confused/mistranscibed etc, so it is probably no more complicated than that! OC

Wanda A little TIP: If you are finding it difficult to follow everything on here, what I usually do is print off the thread and then write out the information in a way that makes sense, e.g. write all the information in calendar form, or on a time line. You will find that it will all suddenly slot into place and make sense, I think - it always works for me. OC

Keep reading everything and cant take it in.Not ignoring you but completely lost. Its like a tennis match! Right got certs and made a complete blunder on one. Will put that one down to being in pain at the time but after what I have read it would have been wrong anyway. The Thomas Mitchell death is not Mary Ellens Thomas in 1915.Cert says Thomas Hamilton Mitchell wife E J Mitchell Of Ardwick. So will discount that one.Wanda.x

Hi Willow & Wanda Found another birth: Roy W Brierley registered in Bury. December Quarter 1922 Mother maiden name Cadden Ref: 8c 749 Checked through to 1925 and only since this birth since Harold in 1916? Big gap in children born here, may have missed one? Or maybe they drifted apart & back again? Or maybe it just time to get the second child? Janice

Janice

Janice Report 12 Jan 2007 19:19

Hi Willow I had the same thoughts as you abt children. Have had a quick check up to 1920 and can find no more children after Harold S Brierley in 1916. Perhaps he said he was married if he was involved with her? Are they allowed to do that though? Another thought I have had is that the children who have no Father named after the Mitchell children, may have been his? I did find a death for Thomas Mitchell which I gave to Wanda, and if that was his death then he was not the father to the children who had no father named. Thomas Mitchell death March Quarter 1915 aged 26 years. Registered in Chorlton. Where Mary Ellen married and had their daughter in 1914. Still checking. Janice x

Willow Report 12 Jan 2007 19:06

Hi Janice Yes it looks good, but just one thing bothers me...on the medal card for him it says that he said he was married and he was discharged 15/11/1915, but if this is his marriage then he wouldnt have been married until 1916.... I think the easiest way to discount this Harold is to see if we continue to find more children for them past 1925 when Wanda's Harold is recorded as being her James father. Anyone got any other idea? need coffee be back soon.
