I'm looking for a William Caton in 1841. I believe there were actually two such men, one born in 1793, and one in 1800, both in Thaxted, Essex. I also have reason to believe that they both married women named Elizabeth. I believe this is the 1793 William as age 48 would have been rounded down to 45, but was wondering if you can find 1800 William in the same year aged 40 (rounded down) just to see if my 'two William & Elizabeth' theory holds water: 1841 Census Thaxted, Essex HO107 328/24 31 p22 The Spout James Caton, 45, Ag Lab Sarah Caton, 40 James Caton, 20 next door: John Caton, 80, Farmer William Caton, 45, Ag Lab Elizabeth Caton, 40 John Caton, 17, Ag Lab William Caton, 13 Ann Caton, 11 Is there another William aged about 40 in Thaxted in 1841, and if so, who is he with ?

Jane, Thanks again, at least I know that it's not only me who can't find them. I've tried various spellings of ROWE and looked at all the Nathaniels. I've also tried reading page after page of microfilms for Burslem but they are a bit feint and its easy to miss things. Thanks for the suggestion of trying all the Elizabeths. I'll try that next time I have access to Ancestry. Julia

Julia mmmm, tried a quick search for them too, esp Elizabeth in 1841 as she was only about 4 years old, but they are not showing up have tried a no surname search too....... there are quite a few 4yr old Elizabeths in Staffordshire i can tell you, lol ! sorry , don't know what to suggest next...... Hi Jane, Thank you very much for looking. They had two children, James born 1828 who I have found in 1851. And Elizabeth who I think I might have found. She was born about 1837 in Longton. I think it is she who Ancestry lists as being 73 rather than 23, looking at the image it could be 23. The first digit is not that clear. But neither James or Elizabeth are with thier parents.

Hi Jane, My ancestor Nathaniel ROWE was born in 1796 in Market Drayton (ref IGI). He married Lucy Furnival in 1827 in Stoke-on-Trent (ref IGI). He listed as a widower in the 1861 census when he is the Chell workhouse, he died there a copule of years later. The problem is I can't find him or his wife in either the 1841 or 1851 censuses. I would expect them be in Burslem, Stoke or Longton. I've searched on Ancestry ans I've not found them, II've tried various spellings of their names but still failed. If you can spot them I'd love to know where they've been hiding. Thank you

Hi I'm trying to fill in a few gaps and wonder if you could look up on the census for the following for me. The information i have already is listed below:- William Walker c1805 I believe listed as born in Coulchester - Essex then traced to Hunslet 1851 and Knottingley 1861. He married Ettebux may be spelt Ettibud - afraid don't know any other names however believe born c1810 in Hunslet. They had 9 children Heman (I know all about him as I am a descendent and have worked out the tree to there) Thomas c1830 Swinton? Margaret c1831 Liverpool? Rechab c1841 Knottingley - I have confirmed his christening to be at Knottingley in Dec 1841. William c1846 Yorkshire? Benjamin Earnshaw c1832 Holbeck? Hannah c1840 Hanley Staffordshire? Slefevre c 1834 Hull? Please can you check 1841, 1851, 1861 & 1871 census info for me. I would be gratefull for any information you can find out for me. Julie

Hello Jane Thanks for the info re Sheppey. Pity about 1861, it is probably the many variations of the name that make it difficult for the transcibers. Thanks for trying John

Hi Jane Would you please look in 1861 , most likely Tipton Staffs for the following family John Sheppey born 1829 Tipton Ann Sheppey born 1834 Tipton Wife Benjamin Sheppey born 1858 Tipton Son The spelling of the name Sheppey varies immensely, but the one I have used is the most common. If you do find them would you also look in 1871 - there should also be a son John born abt 1868. Thanks inadvance John
