John All I can suggest (don't know if it's poss) is to try to get electoral records for the address on the marriage cert and see if that unveils any info. As we do not have an esablished birth year or place I cannot find anything that is watertight Sorry Zoe

Hi Zoe I have something that is intriguing me, if you can help in any way I will be eternally grateful. In my family tree their was a Trust Fund left to my maternal grandmohter named Ellen Blanche Cocks (birthname was actually Cock), b: 1896 Putney. She married a Thomas William Nichols around 1912 and was left this KELLY TRUST which we know came from her Mother's side of the family (Godsiff)in Ireland. George Robert Godsiff , Ellen's maternal Grandfather is the farthest I have been able to go back on that side. b:1828 in Rochester Kent. I think at that time they were probably one of the 1st Godsiff families recorded online in England at that time. As yet I have not found any Kelly connection apart from Robert Godsiff who was born 1841 in Ireland (must be some relation but not sure) and Mary Gogarty b: 1865 Co Meath who married a son of George's called Henry Godsiff, I think in 1898. I have no further details on that. Can you point me in the right direction to treace this. Any more information you need let me know. Regards Ingrid PS If you can't help with this I have another Godsiff lookup on 1881 census which George's family are not traceable. I'll give you details later

Irene Do you have your great grandfathers marriage cert? Who does it name his father as and what is the occupation? Do you have Thomas in any other census as it's easier to track backwards through censuses than forward. Have you found this family in 1881/1891/1901 if so please post info Zoe

Lisa Have looke din March 1903 not Frederick William Foot getting married that month, all I can suggest is you go through the marriage index of Foot for the years 1901-1905 and see if you find a Frederick William Foot, if so then check in the Clements names for a marriage under that page and volume number. You can do this for free at Ancestry BMD BETA Zoe

Hi Zoe - sort this one out and I'll call you 'HOLMES'.... Mother - Bertha Elizabeth Walsh. Born 1895 (possibly, could be earlier, no official date of berth), place of birth, unknown, could be Lancashire/Yorkshire. May have spent early years in a 'home' in the Yorkshire area, possibly brought up by nuns. Father was called Edward, down as deceased on marriage certificate in 1920. (Her date of birth was alo down as 1895, but this could have been simply because her husband's dob was also 1895). No record of this woman being born anywhere with this dob.. She was in service, employed as a Nursery Maid with a 'Major Robert Bell TURTON, in Stokesley at 'Kildale Hall' (Rosebury Topping Cleveland Hicks) possibly between 1910 - 1917. (I did find a Bertha Walsh born 1892 with father called Edward in Charnock Richard, Lancashire. But not certain if this is the same person. no one in the family seemed to have had any info on her before 1920. If you can find anything at all on Bertha Elizabeth Walsh before 1920, I will be absolutely amazed ( and happy). Best wishes Zoe... John (alias Sir Arthur Connan Doyle) !!!!!!!

Hi Zoe Someone told me that the Scottish/English border changed a lot, so if I have a family with some children born in Roxburghshire, Scotland and some baptised in Wooler, Northumberland, ENG around 1839-1850, do you know how (or where) I could find their birth information? They are the children of Robert and Margaret HOPE (MOIR):- Charles, Margaret, Isabella, Jane and Thomas. These are the ones I have listed on the 1851 Census in Coldstream, BER, Scotland. I have only been searching the IGI and Scotland's People on-line. I don't know what is available on-line for England. I am really hoping that you can give me some advice. Thanks, if you can! Hi Zoe, I hope it will be 3rd time lucky ! The 1861 Census shows William and George Phipps, as sons of Robert & Sarah. Robert was 21 years of age and as William was born 1846 and George in 1851 then they were clearly not his sons. Presume he was a relative (cousin) as all the males were born in St Clement Danes. The address was 52 Chapter St. William's birth certificate gives the family address as 10 Milford Lane in the Sub-district of St.Clement Danes and his father shown as a Coal Porter (makes a change from all the Ag-Labs !). William's marriage certificate (September 1867) also states same occupation for father who was deceased; William's address by then was Houghton St, Clare Market. He was married by Banns at St Clement Danes. No certificates yet for George but he was shown living with William and his family in 1871, marrying in December 1872 at St.Clement Danes then in 1881 was on Census for Walthamstow where he claimed he was born in Bethnal Green ! The Robert Phipps I am looking for appears to have died June 1855 in the Strand area and IGi has thrown up a Robert Skinner Phips (different spelling) born Jan 1811 in St Clement Danes plus a Rebecca Elizabeth Clark (also different spelling) born Aug 1811 in St Martin in the Fields. There are so many Phipps/Phips/Fipps/Phibbs etc. all in this Strand area of Westminster a new pair of eyes might solve it. I sincerely hope so and will be eternally grateful, as the saying goes, if you do. MAny thanks, Brenda.

Hello Zoe, Thanks for the kind offer. My biggest mystery is where people get their info from. I'm in Australia but find it difficult to get out. Can you give me any websites I could subscribe to or thing I could buy. I use Family search and all the free ones. My second mystery is the KETLEY family. James and Eliza (Ayley). Son William born Oct 1852 Good Easter, Essex. Anyway of finding any other children or what happened to James and Eliza. William came to Australia in 1874 so I have him. If you solve my first mystery I might be able to do the second myself. Thanks.
