Emma Report 2 Apr 2006 11:19

Hello again, I having problems finding my grandad Joseph Boadley (1885) 1st wife May / Mary Lily Twells. I don't know where she was born or when we think it may be around 1890, we also know that they had a child Victor in 1911, there are at lest 2 other children Lillian/Lily, Fred and possible a Dora (not quite sure if she was my grandma's first born). May Twells died in Nottingham before 1929 because thats when m grandad married Gertrude Hackett. Many thanks Emma

Linda Couple of things? You said this is them in the 1891 census John Morgan Head 20 Born Durham Mary Marshall Sister 33 Born Durham *makes her born 1858*how come she is now much older than John the eldest Ohh the censuses annoy me sometimes Thomas Marshall Nephew 13 Born Durham *He was in the census as Son of Mary and Ralph** Ralph Marshall Nephew 4 Born Durham Mary Morgan Widow 47 Born Staffs. **Would make her born 1844 and on 1881 she gave birthplace as Ireland** Now you said you have them in 1901 is Ralph with them as it says she is a Widow on 1891 census! Angela Think this is him in 1881 He is a Coal Miner Front Street Emma Holt abt 1855 Cradley, Worcestershire, England Wife Tudhoe Durham James N. Holt abt 1879 Tudhoe, Durham, England Son Tudhoe Durham Thomas Holt abt 1848 Rochdale, Lancashire, England Head Tudhoe Durham ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1891 Emma Holt abt 1855 Cradley, Warwickshire, England Wife Tudhoe Durham James W Holt abt 1879 Tudhoe, Durham, England Son Tudhoe Durham John Holt abt 1886 Tudhoe, Durham, England Son Tudhoe Durham Joseph T Holt abt 1888 Tudhoe, Durham, England Son Tudhoe Durham Lily Holt abt 1881 Tudhoe, Durham, England Daughter Tudhoe Durham Mary E Holt abt 1883 Shotton, Durham, England Daughter Tudhoe Durham Thomas Holt abt 1849 Rochdale, Lancashire, England Head Tudhoe Durham Now what was his father's occupation on marriage cert? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now found this one in 1851 father called Thomas also Head is a Labourer and a Widow Emma Holt abt 1840 Butterworth, Lancashire, England Daughter Wardleworth Lancashire John Holt abt 1838 Butterworth, Lancashire, England Son Wardleworth Lancashire Mary Holt abt 1843 Butterworth, Lancashire, England Daughter Wardleworth Lancashire Thomas Holt abt 1813 Butterworth, Lancashire, England Head Wardleworth Lancashire Thomas Holt abt 1848 Rochdale, Lancashire, England Son Wardleworth Lancashire ==OR== 1851 Head is a Woolen weaver by hand Anne Holt abt 1818 Wardle, Lancashire, England Wife Wuerdle and Wardle Lancashire James Holt abt 1847 Wardle, Lancashire, England Son Wuerdle and Wardle Lancashire Mary Holt abt 1844 Wardle, Lancashire, England Daughter Wuerdle and Wardle Lancashire Robert Holt abt 1841 Wardle, Lancashire, England Son Wuerdle and Wardle Lancashire Thomas Holt abt 1811 Calderbrook, Lancashire, England Head Wuerdle and Wardle Lancashire Thomas Holt abt 1850 Wardle, Lancashire, England Son Wuerdle and Wardle Lancashire Now Wardle is also in the Rochdale district.. These are the only 2 born Rochdale 1849 +/- 1 in 1851 census with a father also called Thomas. Birth cert wise it looks like he was probably born at the beginning of the year 1848 if 52 in June 1900(had his birthday) I am more leaning towards the 1st 1851 census as he would have been born at the beginning of 1848 as he is 3 in 1851. I think there are only 2 births when you narrow it down to the first 2 quarters of the year 1848 Hope this helps Zoe

Brian Think I found Found him in 1891 9 Burke Street Croxton Fletcher abt 1867 Liverpool, Lancashire, England Brother West Derby Lancashire Mary A Fletcher abt 1873 Liverpool, Lancashire, England Niece West Derby Lancashire Catherine Moffitt abt 1880 Liverpool, Lancashire, England Daughter West Derby Lancashire Michael Moffitt abt 1883 Liverpool, Lancashire, England Son West Derby Lancashire Sarah A Moffitt abt 1847 Rock Ferry, Cheshire, England Head West Derby Lancashire Thomas Moffitt abt 1874 Everton, Lancashire, England Son West Derby Lancashire William Moffitt abt 1885 Liverpool, Lancashire, England Son West Derby Lancashire ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now if you are just wanting parents details best to get birth certs as these will give you mothers maiden name and mother & fathers occupations and the address they were born may make it easier finding them in the censuses..As I said GRO certs are the best thing to get it can help out greatly when looking for ancestors Zoe

Ann

Ann Report 2 Apr 2006 05:44

Hi Zoe! Don't know which mystery to start with!! But lets give the Killingbecks a try................ have scoured the 1881 for them but to no avail. They are Robert (b1843 Filey) Ann (nee Tate b.1846 South Witham, Lincs)- wife Ada A. (b. Kensington 1870)-daughter Sarah Elizabeth (b.1871, Kensington)-daughter Robert Tate (b.1873, Kensington)-son Thomas H. (b.1877 Kensington) -son Emily Tate (b1879/80 Scarborough-Filey)-daughter In the '71 Robert is a coachman at York House Stables, in Vicarage Place, near Kensington gardens. (St Mary Abbotts, town Ward, Kensington,Chelsea) His family are a few streets away at Dukes Lane, where Ann is living with their daughter Ada, her mother Mary Tate & Ann's nephew Thomas Tate. she is given as 'wife of coachman' Robert died in 1881 (Reg Sept qu in Kensington) so I'm wondering if when the census was taken he might have been ill or something & the family had to move or something maybe? By the '91 Ann had remarried John Hartas Lawson & was living back in Filey where Roberts family originate, with her sons Robert & Thomas. In '91 Emily is living with her married sister Sarah (now Sutherland) in Kingston-upon-Hull. (mis-transcribed as Emily Kate) Just don't know what happened to them all on the '81! Have tried everyone's suggestions of looking for possible mis-spellings & Maureen found someone on another year for me like that - transcribed Willingham!!?!! Also searching by POB, DOB & part of name etc. How am I ever going to find them all?!! Would appreciate a fresh pair of eyes.

This data say birthplace is in Knockin, but others say Kinnerley, Shropshire. Any chance you can follow the trail? Would like to find his father and mother... also don't know Mary's maiden name... how could I find that, I've tried the marriage stuff but so complicated! Thanks Stu

Hi Zoe - do you want to try this one? I have a Rebecca Smith who, according to her passports, was born in either 1889/1890 in Wigan. We know that she was found on the doorstep of a tavern and the name of the family that took her in was Cordingley. She has been found on the 1901 census, though her surname seems to be written 'Uses' (transcribed as Esses) Her age was written as KN with 5 circled in the occupation column. 1901 18 Crag Road,Shipley Holmes Cordingley Head 36 Inn Keeper b Baildon Merina Cordingley Wife 35 b Leeds Percy Cordingley Son 13 Milk boy Hawker b Windhill Sarah J Cordingley Daur 2 b Windhill Rebecca Esses Adopted Daur 5 b Wigan This is the same family for 1891 12 Holt Terrace ,Idle ,Shipley,Yorks Holes Cordingley Head 26 Tailor b Baildon,Yorks Merina Cordingley Wife 25 b Windhill,Yorks Percy Cordingley Son 3 b Windhill No sign of Rebecca, though I don't think she was only 5 in 1901. She was married in 1908, giving her age as 18 (same as her husband). I'd like to find her for 1891, but I am also trying to find her birth - I do think that she may not have been registered in the regular fashion - so I am unsure where to look. I've heard mention of an 'Abandoned Baby' register and wonder if she might be there - unsure what name to check under though. Margaret

Hi Thanks for the info, yes I have him in 1901 they were living in Scotland then so they are on the 1901 Scottish census. Hi Zoe thanks very much for the kind offer. Any help would be appreciated. My problem is looking for Thomas Holt from Rochdale ( there are loads). need to send off for his birth certificate to progress at all. I am going round in circles. the earliest census i have for my Thomas is 1871 THOMAS HOLT C1848 ROCHDALE VISITOR HASWELL, DURHAM. He married Emma Hollyoak in tudhoe 1874. his age was given as 24 years. father was listed as Thomas Holt. thomas died june 1900 aged 52 years. could you please look in the 1851 census and list all Thomas Holts born Rochdale in the years 1847 -1850 with father also called Thomas. will then try and eliminate each one unless you can think of any other way. regards Angela
