Thanks for the offer - looks like you are in for a very busy day!! If you are able to look up one or both of the following I would be really grateful. The info has come from IGI so I would like it verified and any other info added. Christening of Mary (Ann?) Hardy 11th May 1806 - parents Robert and Judith Marriage of Mary Ann Hardy and John Coats (Coates) 23rd Nov 1819. They are just listed as Sunderland under the batch numbers so I assume they took place in the main Anglican church. Thanks again Kate

Hello Maureen Hope you may be able to help me. I am looking for the marriage of John Heaviside to Mary ?, their first child was born in 1828, so marriage probably 1826-1828!, they lived in Claypath, Durham on 1851 census. According to IGI the children were baptised at St Oswalds, maybe married there? Also by this time he was not on census so assumed died. I hope this is not too vague. Many thanks Rosemary

What a great offer! I am trying to find information about the death of Hannah Ireland (nee Blanchard) who died in Sunderland in the March quarter of 1870, she was 46. The rest of the family are living in Sunderland on the 1871 census at Potterybank, Sunderland. I would love to know why she died so young or where she was buried, although I am not sure if Durham would be the right area for this sort of information. Thanks again for the offer. Lynne

Chris Report 12 Feb 2006 11:38

Thanks for that, Mo, It's obviously a larger job than I realised. I thought that with an exact date it might be straightforward (I should know better!) Unfortuanately they didn't live in Sunderland at the time of a census. They had a daughter, Ellen TINLIN, born in Sunderland in Dec Qtr 1867, but I haven't found a baptism either, so no leads from that. Looks like it's time to invest in a certificate! Thanks again, Chris

Hi Chris Do you have them on the Census ?? If you do along the top of the census page there is a section called Eccalastical parish..this will sometimes give you the name eg St Pauls.... St George.... etc....this is the name of the Church that the parish belongs too.. It would help to cut down the church search... Mo Sunderland Holy Trinity Early Church 1719 Sunderland St. Chad modern Church 1931 and after Sunderland St. John 1875 and after Sunderland St. Oswald after 1897 baptisms only Sunderland (Pennywell) St. Thomas Modern Church after 1951 Sunderland (Town End Farm) St. Bede no registers deposited Sunderland Holy Trinity also has Adjacent Parishes of Bishopwearmouth St. Thomas Hendon St. Paul Middle Hendon St. Barnabas Monkwearmouth St. Cuthbert Sunderland St. John Bishopwearmouth St. Michael and All Angels Parts of this parish became part of these parishes: Sunderland St. John (1875); Sunderland St. Oswald Hope this helps all C of E

Mo, You're obviously inundated already, but I would appreciate your advice. I'd like to get details of a marriage that took place on 18 Feb 1867 in South Sunderland, between James TINLIN and Catherine SCOTT. How many churches are in 'South Sunderland'? Is it possible to identify the actual church without looking at each parish register? Any advice would be much appreciated. Many thanks, Chris
