Richard, right, you didn't say what year you wanted for the Dobsons, so have done 1861, 1861. 15 Lother st, Great clifton Elizabeth Dobson abt 1831 Ormskirk, Lancashire, England Wife Great Clifton Cumberland Henery Dobson abt 1859 Great Clifton, Cumberland, England Son Great Clifton Cumberland Isaac Dobson abt 1851 Cockermouth, Cumberland, England Son Great Clifton Cumberland Marcy Ann Dobson abt 1855 Liverpool, Lancashire, England Daughter Great Clifton Cumberland Martha Dobson abt 1857 Great Clifton, Cumberland, England Daughter Great Clifton Cumberland William Dobson abt 1831 Workington, Cumberland, England Head Great Clifton Cumberland William Dobson abt 1853 Great Clifton, Cumberland, England Son Great Clifton Cumberland BUT, occ is coal miner not butcher !!??( did check 1881, and hes a butcher there, so have got the right family, phew !) do you have him in all other census? can see him in all but 1851, but don't think he's married then, can you confirm for me please? also, bad news on the other 2 families though i'm afraid , nothing in 1861.................

Justine, sorry the census was 1901, ( which is what i thought you had asked for....) address was 15 Panlin (?) st, Bermondsey Have absolutely no idea which area Chiswick comes under, but did find the birth of an Annie Emeline Tucker in dec. 1881, in Lambeth, so thought Lambeth was a possibility. have since had a look for 1891 too, but nothing i'm afraid, there was only 1 about right age, in London, but father didn't match.. have also had a quick look at 1881, remembering that she might not have been born yet, but again, nothing with Chiswick at all, but obviously you are able to view 1881 on LDS, so if you find your William, send me the details back & i'll try searching again for him next time,

Mary, These are all the Mary Kings in 1901 census in Bristol: Mary King abt 1880 Pucklechurch, Gloucestershire, England Servant Bristol Gloucestershire Mary King abt 1886 Bristol Servant Bristol Gloucestershire Mary King abt 1873 Devizes; Bath Visitor Bristol Gloucestershire Mary A King abt 1880 Bristol; St Thomas Daughter Bristol Gloucestershire Mary Ann King abt 1888 Bristol Daughter Bristol Gloucestershire Mary Annie King abt 1872 Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Wife Bristol Gloucestershire Mary King abt 1889 Bedminster; Bristol Daughter Bristol Gloucestershire Mary A M King abt 1880 Bristol; Clifton Granddaughter Bristol Gloucestershire now i have removed all the ones that didn't apply already, wrong initials, were wives, etc. i would suggest that your John William is the oldest child as the parents married in June 1901, and John was born Sept. 1901, the only way forward for you is to see the marriage certificate of Mary Ann & William, to find out both of their fathers names, sorry but its going to cost you £7 before i can help you any more....... but get back to me when you have the names and i'll look again for you ... jane

Could you try and look up on the 1901 census any relatives of my grand-father, Eugene Daniel Frances Wills. He was born in Liverpool in 1885. I know there was 1brother George J Wills born 1887 and I know of 1 sister Madeline, sorry I do not know any dates for her. Their father left them in the care of his brother or sister when they were quite young and went off to America after the death of his wife. Again I have no more info on names or dates. I know it sounds an impossible task, but would appreciate any help I can get. Jill

Hi Jane Thanks for that. All I have on the Snell's is Margaret Snell who was married to Matthew Davies. Her father's name on her marriage cert in 1842 is Charles and occupation is farmer. I then have a George Snell ( i'm assuming is her brother) in attendence on Mathew Davies death cert in 1856. All residences are Chester on all info i have but don't know where Charles would have been born or his wifes name... Hope this makes sense. Thanks for your help Julie

Hi Jane, really appreciate all this!! All I know is her name Maryann King and she died in 1941 and I have been told she was 61 years old when she died, so that would make her born in 1880 I think...John William Maggs was her son and I think he was the eldest but not really sure, he did have siblings but I think they were younger, any help...thank you for all your help regards mary

Hi again Thanks for looking up my John Davies in Wales lol lol....... I thought it would probably be like looking for a needle in a haystack. I think I'll leave that one for now. However if you wouldn't mind looking up the name Snell from Chester. Im looking for a Charles Snell who would be born c1800 or a George Snell who was probably his son? Many thanks Julie

Jane Report 3 Jan 2006 20:54

Hi again Mary, i'm just trying to sort this one out for you................ have had alook on 1901 for a Mary maggs, but there's loads in Bristol. do you know roughly how old she would be? i'm also in the middle of searching for her marriage, 1. to get husbands name to narrow it down, 2. to double check i'm looking for the right surname. do you have any details on husband? or did John have older siblings do you know? ........................................ UPDATE.......... getting there... Marriages Jun 1901 KING Mary Ann Bristol 6a 124 MAGGS William Bristol 6a 124 so doubt they'll be together in 1901 census, but be right back............ no, sorry, doesn't look like they're together.............. probably married just after census too. so all you can do now is to get the fathers names off the marriage certificate, and hopefully they would have given their ages too, there is just too many William Maggs and Mary Kings in Bristol to just guess which they are i'm afraid, sorry.................... Jane

Hello Jane, Thanks for looking for Robert Whiiteside. I have him in 1851, living at home in Toxteth Park, with his parents Thomas aged 47 and Mary aged 46 along with other bros .and sisters and I also have him in 1871, married and living with his wife Anne and family also in Toxteth Park. However he does not appear to be at home with his parents in 1861 and I was curious to know where he might have got to and what other leads that might give me. However, as you say with so many possibilities, it is unlikely that the right one will jump out at you. Thanks again for trying. Regards John
