Wendy Had a look at all the villages in the Pontesbury parish and only came up with John Dovaston (30) Malt m, which i assume is short for a Maltman as there was Malt w for a woman) Given that the name seems uncommon in the area, John could be a rellie.............. the prob is knowing if true or not! Anyway, if you would like copy of page please send me your addy Gerry

Gerry Report 7 Feb 2006 15:54

Lilian Sorry, no sign of them in any part of Shiffnal. The Census was taken on 6 June 1841 so there is a good chance your two were married and away by census day. I note they were back in Middlewich in 1851 Census. In the circumstances it would be worth checking the 1841 Cheshire Census. If, when you gat the marriage cert , u still think they were in Shropshire for the census and you have another possible location give me a shout. Having said all that I did find 3 sperate Ferriday (note diff spelling): William (40) Collier and Wife Haanah (40) with kids Benjamin (45) Miner and wife Ann (45) with kids John (50) and wife (40).(I could not figure out her name) and kids Any or all of this lot could be related to your Emma. Marriage cert may give you idea. If you want copies of relevant census pages send me your addy. Gerry

Thankyou for your kind offer, if possible, could you look for the following family please... DOVASTON Family... THOMAS born 1771. Alberbury? (unsure on that) WIFE MARY.. born Westbury 1780. Doubt children were with them on the 1841 census, as would be in their 30's and 40's at that time. Possibly the Pontesbury area of Shropshire, many thanks, Wendy.

Teri Was very helpful thanks. Turns out that on the Census it was spelt (incorrectly I think because on one occasion it was corrected) as Woolverley! As it happens, there were less than 100 people in that huge place and I am afraid your two were not there. I then looked in Wem for you but still no luck i am afraid. I did fine two seperate entries for Cooke........ one being Catherine (15) and the other Sarah (15) pupil in a tiny school of about 8 pupils! .......... Don't know if they are of any interest to you. Lemon you cheeky monkey (lol) I have found only one Mary Simpson (75) in Prior's Lee. She was a Postwoman of all things!. Only trouble is it says she was born 'out of county' which does not match with what you know. Have sent you image! I am good to you! Gerry

Lilian Report 6 Feb 2006 21:00

Hi again, Gerry. Would you please do another lookup for me when you have time? ELIZA JONES, born about 1835 in Sherborne, Shropshire. Many thanks, Lilian

Lilian Report 6 Feb 2006 20:56

Hi Gerry, Thank you for the offer. I would appreciate you looking for : EMMA FEREDAY (FARADAY), born in Shifnall, Shropshire about 1818 and JAMES OAKES, born in Middlewhich, Cheshire about 1816. They married in the June 1/4 1841 so may have been Mr and Mrs Oakes when the census was taken. I'm waiting for their marriage cerificate. The registration district was Wellington which I think includes Shiffnal so I assume they were both in Shiffnal on census day. James oakes was a publican. Many thanks, Lilian

Gerry now I am going to be really cheeky. Is there any possibility of you having a peek for Mary Simpson circa 1762 she was born Lapley Shropshire. She was living with the Evans (MIL) as a pauper in 1851, but not 1841.....if I knew where and who with it would carry me a whole generation back. Thanks and sorry for being cheeky

Gerry Report 6 Feb 2006 16:45

Lindy Found them living at 'Hazler', Church Stretton. John (60) Weaver Elizabeth (59) Mary (12) They didn't give relationships in 1841Census so I assume Mary was grandaughter as I think Elizabeth may have been a wee bit old at 47 to give birth, but who knows!! I would be interested to know what relationship Mary is. Gerry PS Let me have addy if you want copy
