Unknown Report 25 Sep 2005 17:59

POSTAL APPLICATIONS If you apply by post please complete this form and enclose a stamped addressed envelope and the appropriate fee in sterling. Information about the cost of certificates may be obtained from any register office. All remittances should be made payable to the appropriate authority as given here and cheques should be crossed '/& Co/' Do not send cash. This application form should be sent to the Superintendent Registrar of the district where the marriage occurred. Still don't know WHO to make postal order payable to !!! Got to go Elaine :-)

I've ordered a certificate before now from West Bromwich and I did it in the form of a letter as I don't have a printer. I included all the information that Elaine has stated already and I also included a telephone number where they could contact me if they needed to query anything. I had no problems getting the certificate without the actual order form from the website

Hi Richard, In answer to your question, why might they ignore your request if not put on an order form ? They possibly WILL sort out your request ...BUT if they don't it will be because they have provided an order form online, already printed up with the details on, so they have quick and easy access. They MAY use a computerised system .. I don't know. All you can do is try Richard .. and see what happens. Obviously, not everyone is able to print out the correct order forms ... so you must be able to write to them with an application for a certificate. I would keep going Richard ..... they should send you the certificates. You should be able to get BOTH certificates from the same place as if I remember properly, both references were found on WestMidlandsBMD site for Sandwell. I'll check that it is £7 for each certificate and get back to you. Elaine :-) YES, certs are £7 each .... but it doesn't tell you WHO to make cheques/postal orders out to .... I wonder if anyone else knows ?

By the way, Richard, in answer to the question you asked earlier about why the GRO index entry would not show the mother's maiden name in this case although somebody got the same information in the case of your grandfather, that would be because mother's maiden name was added to the index about 1911, so entries before that would not contain the mother's maiden name on the index. Kate.

Send this Application to: Superintendent Registrar, Sandwell Register Office, Highfields, High Street, West Bromwich, West Midlands, B70 8RJ You SHOULD really complete the application forms from the BMD site Richard ... there is a small chance that they will ignore your letter of request ... but you can always try. You need to explain that you are unable to make an application any other way than the way you are doing by letter. Tell them the certificate you require: Marriage of William Berry to Emily Pitt in Sandwell Year and then the Reference number you have got. Same for the birth. Birth Name: Emily Pitt Sub District: Wednesbury Year: 1873 Reference Number: WED/57/364 Good luck Elaine :-)

If you can find that GRO Ref on FreeBMD then you can find the Register Office reference on: WestMidlandsBMD http://www.bmsgh.org Once your on ... click on marriages and then you will see on the next page, a picture of a certificate. Under the certificate is some red writing 'Search the marriage indexes' ...click on the red writing. You have to scroll down the next page until you find where you have to put the names in.
