Hi Richard, Have you ever used FreeBMD ? its a FREE site and although its not 100% complete, it MAY have the marriage listed. Type in FreeBMD into your search facility on your browser ... it should thow up the site ...then click on it. Just incase you know how to enter an address: http://freebmd.rootsweb(.)com ..remove() from address. Enter the names of the two people and the year and see IF it throws up a match. I will check for you as well ... but you need to learn how to do this, so you can help yourself with these little things. Elaine :-)

Richard, You asked for Emily Pitt's rference number for her birth at the Registry Office. I have found this on West Midlands BMD site - given to me by Heather who is helping out so much :http://www.bmsgh.org/cgi/birthind.cgi Name: Emily Pitt Sub District: Wednesbury Year: 1873 Reference Number: WED/57/364 The register is held at Sandwell, so you would have to get the phone number ... unless someone has already given it to you and you have written it down. It will STILL cost you £7 ... they will NOT tell you what information is on the certificate. Dancer

Richard, Wednesbury, as you know, would come under the West Bromwich district. West Bromwich has the reference number 6b after 1852. There are NO John Pitt 's marrying under the 6b ref between and including Dec 1854 to Dec 1857 on the Marriage Indexes on 1837online. This means a) that John did NOT marry in Wednesbury - but I find this hard to believe. or b) He married Elizabeth before Dec 1854 or after Dec 1857. Since we can not find a DEFINATE marriage for John Pitt to Elizabeth ... then we NEED to know Emily's Mum';s name from the birth certificate ... at least then we can search again. Dancer

OK Richard, Bearing in mind the information that Heather has found ...which IS a possibility ... here's some information on Elizabeth Dudley: Could have been born c1838 ELIZABETH DUDLEY Female Event(s): Birth: Christening: 15 MAR 1840 Saint Bartholomew, Wednesbury, Stafford, England Parents: Father: JOSEPH DUDLEY Family Mother: BETSY Messages: Extracted birth or christening record for the locality listed in the record. Possibility !!! ...................BUT I REALLY think if NOTHING else, you SHOULD BUY Emily's birth certificate to MAKE sure of her Mum's name: Birth: Emily Pitt W. Brom Sept 1873 6b. 813 IF her Mum is Elizabeth Dudley ..then we can take both the Pitts /Dudley and Berry's back to 1841 census for you ... BUT you NEED Emily's BIRTH CERT. Ask someone to buy it for you as a Christmas Present ... and then come back on and tell us what it says ! Dancer

Heather

Heather Report 23 Sep 2005 14:44

Hi Richard. DO NOT delete this thread. What I am going to TRY and do, is get all the information regarding YOUR family on this one thread. Somehow, I will try and put all the information found together for you so that you can understand it better. This MAY take a few days to do ... so DON'T delete the thread please. I will do everything I can for you ... and no doubt OTHERS will help as well. No need for any more requests from you on other threads ... if you need to ask something, ask on here ... and I/we will sort it for you best we can. OK ? Dancer :-)
