Lovely Laura. I thought this was a great idea for new people on GR. I just thought maybe they would also need to know what all the abbreviations stand for such as:- LDS BMD BIVRI Please could you add to this list as even i don't know all of them either. You will maybe be able to add some more? |

When posting a request, make sure the title is an accurate indication of what you are looking for. DON'T use your own name...........it tells us absolutely nothing about your enquiry. Reg |

when i first came on the boards in june, the way i learn't was just to look what others were doing, and i guess iv'e just about got it sussed. i did get told off once for nudging and it did scare me a bit, but iv'e just realised that you don't have to use the word nudge, your message get's bumped up when someone replies to your thread. you can use nudge when your message is getting rearly low and you would like a reply, [ just don't forget to say why ]. just found out what lol means [thank's june ]. 'i never knew that' [ leah zotiades 21.7. 05 ]. you learn something new every day. now il'e have all the info on my thread for general guidance. thank's to everyone. great thread laura.. kind regards gwen. |

If you have someone on a census and are asking for lookups on earlier or later censuses, PLEASE post ALL the details from the census you have access to. It's so frustrating trying to help when only half the known info is given. Rose |

A HUGE Thank You from us newbies. the people are just so helpful and give advice, because newbies don't understand what some things are. thank you to the ladies that advised me to look at the tips etc, good sound advice, will try to put it together when using site. Thank you to all who have helped me, understand now I was receiving answers immediately, so for us who perhaps live out od UK. need to say as we may be on line at different times. THANK YOU EVERYONE enjoying the site is excellent. |

Be careful when offering to do lookups! If you have credits to websites that you want to use up, don't state where you are getting the information. You are not supposed to get information from these sites for anyone else. It is for personal use. Have different user names and email addresses for this site and for the site you are getting information from. While I'm here I'd like to say what a great site this is and what a wonderful group of people you all are. Before I found this site I had never really looked at any of the censuses. I had also thought about subscribing to Ancestry but wasn't sure it would be worth my while. I'm now waiting for the next discounted period and then I will definitely subscribe. Paula |

Birth years don't change? You wouldn't have thought it from my gg-grandmother who claimed to be 32, 40 and 53 on successive censuses! |

When asking for census lookups and giving other census details for reference, please give the birth years, rather than the ages. Ages change with the passage of time.........birth years don't; also it saves the person trying to help the problem of doing the maths! Rose |
