DONNA Hi Just one more question, do you happen to know his parents names. on the previous census records I assume you have him on the 1861 it helps narrow it down especially if he married as is scottish tradition (being scots myself ) most of the names were passed down ie. son called after grandfather daughter called after grandmother etc. any help could narrow it down Mary dont worry we are all still new and still ask help from others

JONATHON Just a thought as the johnathon was on another page of the same ship, maybe it wasnt him. Maybe wife and children travelled at a later date and he went earlier. it was quite common in those days for the male to travel and find work etc and then send for the family. I will try another search, but couldnt see anyone with that name born Yorkshire Mary

Dear Mary, Do you have access to census/immigration info which could trace the Gibbons family for the years they were in Canada? William Austin Gibbons born Manchester 1842, married Hannah in England and emigrated c 1870/71, supposedly to 'the New York side of Niagara Falls' where they had a restuarant, and where according to family history daughter Alice was born c. 1871. However 1881 census in England has Alice born in Canada. Son William born later in Canada where they moved to at some point before returning to England 1878. Hannah was catholic, but I don't know about William. Another kind person has checked the 1870 New York census, and cannot find the family there, so I wonder if you can shed any light. Many thanks, Miranda
