Fi (and Angel!) It is the same thing. So no luck, I'm afraid. There's a Sgt Cuff in Wilkie Collins' novel 'The Moonstone', one of the earliest fictional detectives. That is of no use to your genealogical research, but its a bit of trivia you might like to know! nell

She gave me some info about my great-uncle and offered to send me photocopies of his Declaration and Record of Service. You, or your representative can visit the records office to see the file in person. nell

If you have an ancestor who served in the Met I can check his surname in the database. This might give his first name, warrant number and date he joined, resigned/retired from the force as well as details about which area he served in. You can use the warrant number to find his service records at Kew. These include the original examination of the officer when he joined the Met and give a physical description as well as other personal details. Kew also has pension records which give next of kin, children, address and salary information. If your policeman ancestor was not in the Met, his records may be with the county records office or with the police force concerned. nell
