Samantha Report 22 Mar 2004 14:49

Thank you Michelle. All I know is that she had a boy called Samuel Henry Brewer. He was illegitamate so he took her name. She brought him up in a workhouse in west ham, thats where she was probably made to live and work. She was a domestic servant. On the 1901 census I have 2 that are likely to be my grandmother. One is 22 in 1901 that matches your findings and the other is 17 in 1901. They both are domestic servants but the 17 year old worked in west ham workhouse. The 22 year old one I do not know. Please help. Very much appreciate if you could send me any images possible to my e-mail.

Hi Michelle, I'm hoping you can help me to fill in some gaps! I'm looking for three brothers Charles, James and William Brockhurst. Charles 64 b. Keele but might be in Warwickshire by 1891 James 60 b. Keele (or Newcastle) married Jane William 58 b. Brewood/Coven They can be a bit difficult to find because they change the spelling of Brockhurst so often, so don't worry if you can't find them all. Brockhouse and Brockus are the most common variations. Thanks for your help! Liz

Samantha Sorry its taken so long but I have been racking my brains!! I eventually found a Henry Samuel Brewer born March Qtr 1901 West Ham Essex Vol 4a Page 368. I lloked up on the 1901 census and found him aged 6 weeks born West Ham Union Leytonstone Essex with the decoder I then put in Elizabeth Brewer born Ongar and it came up with them having the same page ID code so I think this must be them!! Elizabeth was 17 in 1901 born Ongar. I can't tell you any more as I can't get images. I did try to find an Elizabeth aged 7 on the 1891 census but couldn't find one - the nearest I could get was one aged 12 born in West Ham living with her sister Eliza as stepdaughters to a William Strong, also with thier mother Eliza Strong born Deptford - it could be possibe that if this was her despite the age, the mother died and left the girls with a step dad who left them ( It's a thorght anyway!!) Hope this helps - you could go get the census image from the site or beg fro anyone with spare creit!! Or send for Henry(samuel) Brewer's birth cert. Cheers Michelle

Michelle, You are spot on, I had already been given that information regarding my gt gt nan but I wanted it confirmed and you did that. However how can I get Elizabeth's parents names (other than getting the birth certificate) and siblings. Many thanks Samantha

Samantha Have you thorght about a death cert- that should give her fathers name or marriage cert. I've looked on the Free BDM site for her birth but no luck. You now know she was born about 1884 in Ongar Essex so I would post a plea on the message board maybe someone will find her ! If you have any further info regarding death or marriage let me know and I could try the GRO index at the National Library - I go there about once a week! cheers Michelle

Thank you Michelle. I know that she married a man by the surname of EGGLESTON and he already had a son called Edward otherwise known as Ted. I would love a death certificate and marriage certificate but there is not a chance of this is there?

Hello Michelle, Could you please look for Isaac Hill on the 1891 census, he was born around 1869 in Bradford, Manchester, Lancs. He was 12 on the 1881 census, I'm sure you'll find him living in the same area, possibly married to Mary. Thank you so much, your time is very much appreciated, I subscribed to an incomplete 1891 census online, and found none of my relatives :( Diane
