According to my Aunt B's memoirs,'his mother was the daughter of the folk living at Blyth Hall near Worksop. She fell in love with a groom and produced an illegitimate boy--my father-. She was disgraced and turned out of her home. She eventually married the groom and they had other children but my father was never allowed to forget that he'd been born out of wedlock. In any case, his family lived a poor existence, his mother was inadequate and couldn't cope with being poor'. Horatio's parents names are never mentioned in the memoir, but around that time, there was a prominent family living at Blyth Hall and references to Is mother above Charlotte have in some sites have her maiden name being Mellish, very important family. |
