According to my Aunt B's memoirs,'his mother was the daughter of the folk living at Blyth Hall near Worksop. She fell in love with a groom and produced an illegitimate boy--my father-. She was disgraced and turned out of her home. She eventually married the groom and they had other children but my father was never allowed to forget that he'd been born out of wedlock. In any case, his family lived a poor existence, his mother was inadequate and couldn't cope with being poor'. Horatio's parents names are never mentioned in the memoir, but around that time, there was a prominent family living at Blyth Hall and references to Is mother above Charlotte have in some sites have her maiden name being Mellish, very important family.
What doesn't add up is this daughter from a previous relationship, my Aunt B being told that Horatio was the oldest, and that he goes on to learn the butchering trade on his own, not his father being a butcher. Later info shows he went on to marry a widow with two sons and then Beryl was born in 1917. There's alot more info about him in this memoir, up until his death when Beryl was 9
