The only thing I can suggest is that you get the marriage cert for Thomas & Ann Verrinder and check the occupation of Thomas's dad....Its a very long shot and going to cost the price of 2 certs. Thomas baptised 1815, his dad was a cordwainer and Thomas 1813 his dad was a farmer. It would mean hoping that they stayed in those jobs.

I really don't know Charmian and would hate for you to waste money on my advice. I know how you feel though. I have given up on my Annie Jones from Wales lol

Almondsbury is quite a way from St James

Maybe you could put a request on the board and see if others agree with getting the marriage cert.

Sorry, not much help

Hello Marcelle

Many thanks for all your efforts.

This is the Thomas in question in 1861. Just spotted my typo making him 10 years younger than he actually was - sorry.

The two baptisms you have found for 1813 and 1815 certainly look promising. Have you any suggestions about how I might continue from here?
regards
Charmian

Elizabeth Neillie Father Thomas Mother Mary Ann baptised 11/06/1815 @ Temple

Mary Ann Neillie Father Thomas Mother May Ann baptised 25/04/1813 @ Temple

Charmian Report 9 Jul 2008 19:31

Hi Marcelle
Thomas Baker born about 1824 Bristol married Ann Verrinder (born Painswick Gloucs) in May 1839 in Middlesex. Unfortunately I know nothing more about him other than the fact he was a gardener - at least in every census from 1841 until 1891. They did have several children all born in Middlesex. (Thomas, Henry, Ann, George, Alfred, Arthur). If you are able to find anything that may link to him then great but I do understand the problem of 'popular' surnames.

Thanks for the information Marcelle - with so little to go on it was always a long shot. I'll make a note of it anyway, you never know it may fit in somewhere in the future

Hi Pam

I found one William Henry Butcher baptised 3.1.1794 @ St Stephen born 24/10/1792. Father William mother Elizabeth.

Farrington Gurney is a village situated in Bath and North East Somerset . The village lies on the junction of the A37 and A362 in Somerset.

St Stephen in bang in the middle of Bristol. I notice on the census it says Somerset, Bristol. I would ask some one to check baptisms for Somerset

Good luck, sorry not much help

Hello Marcelle
This is probably a very long shot given the small amount of information I have.
I'm trying to find out anything about a William BUTCHER born c1788 in Bristol according to the 1851 and 61 censuses. He married an Elizabeth but as she came from Cripplegate and they were living in London during all censuses I would guess they also married there.
I can only find one possible on IGI (submitted) son of William Butcher and Charity Dando in Farrington Gurney - is that near enough to Bristol to class as being born in Bristol?
Many Thanks
Pam

Hello Marcelle

Is there any chance that you can find any info about Thomas Baker, born Bristol in 1816. I know that by 1839 he had moved to London but would be grateful for any info available for the time before this.

Thanks in anticipation
