Find Ancestors

I am currently searching for Robert Armstrong born Warrington 1929, he was a bed steward for Cunard and retired 1990 living Southampton. I can't find him, gone through electrol roll, phone book etc. I am coming to the conclusion that he has died between 1990 and now. I know he would be receiving a pension off Cunard but my uncle has been in touch with them and they wont say if he has died.
Advice please on how to find out, I expect it will be a very time consuming job.

If any look likely, ask for GRO refs............bear in mind that locations are death..not birth

I have been given his exact D.O.B by my uncle, so annoying, he gives me information and then corrects it weeks later!

Robert Armstrong, 27/04/1930 Warrington, mothers maiden name Winrow.

Just need to find this man. WHERE ARE YOU ROBERT?

I've just checked deaths 1984-2005..no listing for him there.

Is it possible that he was also known by another name?

Ancestry shows a John Armstrong with that birth date, who died in Lancashire in 2004
