In the Census

It says Collesey Father under the relation section. It looks like there is a '&' in-between.

Thanks

I've had a look, and scanned forward and back on the image to see if any others are also termed with the same, I don't think it is spelt Collessey, I think its either Colsley or Colssey, but I've googled both and come up with nothing!!

As others are termed "Corporal Father" and "Sapper father" etc, I think it is a rank, but what it means I can't help with! Sorry!

I think it's been mistranscribed. It is a rank in the army and then it has + father.

There are other people further down the page that say corporal+father, and sergeant+father. I can't make out what yours says for rank though.

UPDATE - I wonder if it could be an "O" at the beginning and be Orderly. Officers such as the one on the line above your man would have an orderly I think.

I think it might be an abbreviation for Colour Sergeant
