Thanks Glitter ..if that William is a boatbuilder from Banbury then he is Edwins Elder brother ....

I have searched all the Edwin Cotton marriages 1853-1873 and the only Emma is the Emma Silvester I posted from the IGI first. But there are no Emma Silvesters in the 1841 or 1851 census born in Salford/Manchester.

Do you want to marriage record to get Emma's maiden name? Because we could get a birth record reference from one of the children and you could get it from that.

Or Edwin's parent's details from his birth cert if it turns out he was registered in 1837+

Perhaps it would be best to get a birth cert of one of the children to get mothers maiden name then look for a marriage

but the ages are strange? Edwin born Manch, Emma born Salford, the image does LOOK like it says 30 for Edwin and 41 for Emma...
