Find Ancestors

Wondering if SKS could check out brother and sister James and Jessie Heatherill for me please?

Thought I had them sussed before my ancestry sub expired - in 1881 they are in Scotland - in 1901 they are in Leicester. In 1891 they seem to be showing in Scotland, but recently they also seem to have popped up in England!!

Wondering if they were visiting and have got registered twice??!!

On some James' age (20) seems to be mistranscibed as 10, and Jessie's name (age 25) seems to have been mistranscribed as Jane!!

They seem to be in Wigston, Blaby, Leicestershire. Heatherill is such an unusual name that if these two are not mine, visiting, then it's a big coincidence. Would be interested to know who they are visiting if poss - or maybe they are renting while they set up business in Leics - the whole family had moved from Scotland to Leicester soon after 1891 to set up business.

Grateful for any help that will solve this mystery.

Yes, Thanks June, by 1901 the whole family was in Leicestershire, but in 1891 they were all in Scotland - or at least I thought they were until I came across what looks like James and Jessie off gallivanting (known for being party animals these Heatherills!!) - trouble is, ancestry doesn't seem to know they were in Leicestershire in 1891 which is why I didn't trip over them before!! Quite possible of course that the surname has been mistranscribed........

The household has no head - just one son, two daughters and a servant there on census night. The other daughter is Agnes age 27 (or is it 22?)

The previous household is Clarkson, and this is the surname that Ancestry have picked up. Agnes' surname looks more like Weatherill, which is perhaps why FMP didn't list her.

Thanks SO much for your efforts on my behalf - this family had me right confused!! They were big on the family naming tradition which means there are a lot of a similar age with the same name, living close together!!

Your info has proved that it is the right family in Leicestershire in 1891 - thanks SO much.

Looks like some of them moved down to Leicestershire from Scotland ahead of the rest of the family. Agnes was my great grandma, born in 1868.
