Hi,

Can any of you kind people help please?

I have this family in the 1861 census-

John Walton age 39 Druggist assistant born Melton Mowbray
Laura Walton age 39 Wife born North Muscot?, Nottinghamshire
John W Walton age 14 Son Scholar born Manchester
Richard N Walton age 12 Son Scholar born Manchester
Emily S A Walton age 5M Daughter born Nottinghamshire

They are living in Trinity Terrace, Sherwood?, Nottingham but I cannot find them in 1851 or 1841.

Would someone mind having a look for me please?

(I have them in 1861,71, 81, 91 & 1901)

Thanks everso much, Sue

Judging by the youngest child in 61, is it possible John was married previously and appears with a different wife in 1851?

Thank you for looking though, Sue

Keith thats a thought, I am currently awaiting the birth certificate of John Walton junior - that would show who his Mother was.

He was a Grendier Guard at Windsor Castle in 1871 & 1881 and his army records show his next of kin to be his mother Laura so assumed it was her!!

Well with Laura being born Nottinghamshire and Emily as well, it is possible he remarried.
Still cannot find the family though!

I've been intrigued where Manchester fitted in - maybe his first wife was from there?

Guess I should really look at some marriage records!!

Looks like Laura could've been the Mother then?

This is confusing!!

*makes note to self - check IGI more frequently*

Well done Margaret, but Emily seems like a late baby after a break.

Thank you K, that looks as if it could well be the marriage.

Keith - maybe some babies died?

John Senior had died before the 1871 census as Laura was a widow then and I think Laura had died before the 1881 census. In 1881 census I found-

John Junior is a Grenadier Guard at Windsor Castle
Richard is living with his wife & children in Peebles, Scotland
Emily is a servant in Nottingham
