I can confirm the marriage to Ellen Connell as Dec Qtr 1890 Fulham 1a 582

I think you will have to bitr the bullet and invest in both these certs as the info contained will give us more info to work on.

Hi Mary
Re Kirby family
I have just realised that the Edith Ellen Kirby b Mar qtr 1896 Paddington V1a P29 would have been too young because I have her wedding cert where she is married to Robert Tanner 16th December 1911 Kensington she is aged 17,unless she lied about her age as we believe Robert did saying that he was 21 when he was probably 19/20
We think that she was already pregnant when she got married
Would it have been possible to lie about their ages?
Were there any more Edith Ellen Kirby's b1894/5?
Would you mind taking another look for me
Thanx a lot Chris

Mary Report 23 Jan 2008 14:29

Hi Chris
I have checked the full BMD index on find my relatives and can find no others with that name born 1894/5.
It is highly likely that she lied about her age,it was common practise, especially when the bride was pregnant. No proof of age was required and the registrar would have entered the age she gave.

What does the marriage cert give for her father's name and occupation??

Hello Mary,
Thank you for your kind offer.

Could you please look up Sarah A Smith born 1862 Bermondsey, living in Camberwell 1901.

I'd like to know who else is living with her and occupations if possible (unless it's a workhouse!).

Kind regards
Annette

Mary,

I wonder if you can find in the 1901 census the following:

John Richard FLETCHER dob c 1896 possibly in Breconshire. His father and mother were Joseph and Elizabeth (nee Gardner) and I believe he had a sister Janet and a brother Fred.

I am particularly interested in the places of birth for the various family members but would be grateful for anything you can find,

Cheers

Ivor

Hello Ivor
At the moment I cannot find the Fletcher family in either England or Wales.
I have searched the Full BMD index and cannot find a birth for John Richard Fletcher 1893 to 1897 apart from this one John Richard Fletcher June Qtr 1894 Clun 6a 515.
Do you have the marriage for Joseph/Elizabeth.
Do you know when Janet and Fred were born and where??
Any snippet may help,as I am really struggling to find them.

Hello Mary,

Well you did it again..........thanks!

Would it be possible to take another look in:
1861 census please. You looked before I know, maybe there is a mistranscription.

Sturt, Isaac 1817.
Mary, wife.
Isaac 14
John 12
Henry10
William 7

It is possible that Mary was already deseased.

Many Thanks,
Vera.

Mary,

Thanks very much for your efforts so far. The John Richard F birth in Clun could be right and this is followed by a marriage in 1899 between a Joseph Fletcher and Elizabeth Gardener also in Clun, so may be the family are in Clun, Shropshire in 1901. I believe sister Janet retained her mother's maiden name (GARDENER) maybe indicating that she was born (like John R) before the parents married. This is all conjecture at the moment and maybe copies of the birth and marriage certs are needed........

Cheers and thanks

Ivor
