Shame. I found him in 1851 listed as living with:

Jonathon 1822
Henry 1825
Mary ann 1829
David 1834
Jane 1836
benjamin 1837
Ann 1839

Would you be able to look up one or two of those if it's not too much trouble?

Clair

Hi Mary, would it be possible to do a marriage check for me- Date 1855, in Liskeard, Cornwall. Between, WILLIAM COLLEY born 1822? and Anne Maria WELSH born 1830 ?? Many thanks John R..

Mary Report 21 Feb 2008 15:36

Hi Shirley
Sorry I cannot positively ID your Rachel Davis on the 1841 census.
No birthplaces are shown on 1841 census only whether a person was born in the County or not.
So althogh there are possible contenders it is impossible to be sure if one or any off them is correct.

Brenda Report 21 Feb 2008 14:48

Hi Mary,
Brenda here just to let you know I telephoned the reg. office at Neath and was met by the very pleasant voice of a woman who was more than willing to help. The good news is I can go there fill in the form and they will search there and then and I can see what they find and if its the correct father pay the £7 and have the cert if not they will search the other one for me and still only pay the £7 if that one has the correct father.
What more could I have asked for they were also willing to do this by letter as long as I gave all the details. They would have contacted me then to pay for the cert. and sent it out.
So I'm off on a jolly next week to Neath to see the results done there and then and fetch I hope my cert back with me and a nice day out too!!!
Will let you know how it goes no I'll be back asking you for another search lol !!!
Many thanks for the help Brenda x

Hi Mary, would you be so kind to check out the following for me on the 1841 census?

William MILLEN, born c1811, Sittingbourne, Kent, wife Eliza. He was around on the 1851, 1861 & 1871. I would like to see what family he had in 1841.

Best Wishes,

hi Jacki
Do you know where and when John Buckley married?
I checked immigration lists but nothing between 1891 and 1901.
Are you sure he went to South Africa??

Hi Brenda
If were you I would try contacting the local Reg records.
You may be lucky and speak to someone who is helpful and not a"jobsworth".
Try a phone call first much cheaper than sending for a cert on the offchance.
You get no more info on Ancestry in fact you get less because you cannot cross match Spouse.

Let me know how you get on

Good luck

Mary

Hi Mary,
I have what I think is his parents back as far as the 1861 census, It was just trying to find out which of these births was his so I could find both his parents names for sure I have a Joseph Jones from the marriage but they dont give the mother and I have a list of the children all 10 of them but I needed to be sure this definately was his family.
I will just have to take a chance and order one see what comes back and then go from there. I wasn't sure how much more info you got on Ancestry etc compaired to the free bmd. It will be worth it in the end.
Do you think the registry office where it was recorded would be worth contacting it would be local for me I haven't done this before all mine are from scotland these are hubby's family.
Sorry to be such a pest you've always been a great help before thought I could ask you this.
Thanks very much for the reply anyway.

Hi Brenda
Not sure if you can specify names of parents on applications for birth certs, might be worth finding out.
I looked on the 1871 census for Lewis Jones b 1869 and there werea couple but no others with parents Joseph and Mary(very biblical).
Do you have details of the family in earlier censuses???I have found them back to 1871,lwet me know if you want details.

Kind regrads
Mary
