Maggi
Thanks for the information on Richard Turner in Caversham which is very helpful. I was wondering if you would mind looking for any siblings when you have time.
Thanks again
Natalie

Hi Natalie
I'm afraid Cavershams not very well covered. On my disc there are 4 churches.St Andrew & St Barnabas have no baptisms(maybe havent been transcribed?) St Johns start 1888.Unfortunately Sonning stops at 1836!!!
The only Richard Turner near the right dates was baptised 3 Oct 1806 in St Peter Caversham of parents Richard & Elisabeth.
There are a lot of Turners on the St Peter register. If you think they might be yours do get back to me.Sorry I was'nt more helpful!

Hi Marlene
There is no record of Mary Ann Arnell being baptised in Henley at St Marys.
There is the chance she was born there & baptised elsewhere.Otherwise I guess she came from one of the villages close to Henley.
There is no record of any Arnell though there are a few ARNOL/ARNALL/ARNOLD's in the 1600's.
There are also a lot of ARUNDELL/ARUNDEL's throughout.
Where was Mary Ann in 1841.Have you found her parents on census?
If you find any other info that may help pinpoint her get back to me.
Regards Maggi

Hi Margaret

Thank you for your kind offer.

I am looking for information on Mary Ann Arnell

She was born about 1828/1829 in Henley on Thames, according to census,

In 1857 on her marriage cert it states of full age and her father as a Thomas Arnell, maltster. By 1857 she was living in Reading.

I have no other info for her prior to her marriage.

Any other info would be extremely welcome.

Thank you
Marlene

Thank you Margaret for all your help. I will take a look at the Pratley tree.

Margaret Report 19 Dec 2007 15:04

SIOBHAN on the 1841 Joseph is aged 20 living in St Martins Oxford City, but there is not a marriage for him there or any baptisms. He is a servant. So I would believe that your Joseph is this one, and the one on the 1851 married to Esther. The brother probably believed he was born in Wheatley he may well have been baptised elsewhere.
Have you looked for the Pratley tree onthe net, it may well be of assistance to you with the marriage. I also have plenty of Pratleys but not your particular Esther. Sorry

CelticShiv Report 19 Dec 2007 14:54

Samuel I got from the 1851 census he is staying with his brother Joseph and sister in law Esther and his place of birth is given as Wheatley.

from the census Joseph's birth date is about 1821, so I think he probably is that of Joseph and Mary Harding.

Hi Margaret,

Joseph born c1818 had a brother called Samuel born c1836 in Wheatley if that helps confirm the parents.

thank you,

Siobhan

Hi Margaret, thank you very much for those. I am pretty sure Joseph Sheldon and Mary Harding is the correct one, but will double check through what I have to make sure and get back to you.

It is Mary Ann Sheldon born 1844 that my descendants go down. Haven't been able to locate a baptism for her. But I know from the census that her parents were Joseph Sheldon and Esther Pratley. I just realised she was born after 1837 I have never done a search for her birth certificate DOH!. I must see if I can find it on freebmd and order it.

Thank you for looking for me. It is very appreciated.

Gill Report 19 Dec 2007 12:30

Thanks Maggie,

That is quite interesting, as there was another Sarah WELCH bapt in 1755...so might have been her.
Don't think the Parish Clerk would think 49ish was young (my Sarah)...say's me, clutching at straws...lol

Thanks everso for your time

Margaret Report 19 Dec 2007 12:19

Hi Gill
I'm afraid the only burial for Sarah Welch is 19 March 1792 in Wantage.Unfortunately the parish clerk at that time omitted ages & just put young or old!! Sarah was classed as young! So who knows?
