Hiya,

I was asked to add my details re headington/charlbury on here.

I am looking for information onJoseph Sheldon and Esther Pratley i.e. their marriage and details of children who were born in Charlbury:

Mary Ann born c1844
Harry William Grant born c1852
Jane Emma born c1854 and any other children they may of had.

Joseph Sheldon's (born c1818 Headington) I believe parents were Joseph Sheldon and Mary Harding.

and Esther Pratley's (born c1824 Wychwood) parents I beleive were John Pratley and Susannah Grant.

Any records you can find on the above would be grately appreciated.

regards,

Siobhan

MARGARET= MARRIAGE LOOK UPS ON DISC.
If you would like a lookup on the Oxfordshire Marriage Disc, I am perfectly happy to do so, I am trying not to get too involved with my own tree this close to Christmas as I tend to be a bit one track minded and cannot stop fiddling if there is a bit outstanding. The Great Marlow booklets are calling me to work on the baptisms etc for my ancestors and if I start I will not stop for Christmas.....So helping others will keep me from getting too involved with my own research for a bit.......

Hi Gill
Not much luck I'm afraid.Grove PR did'nt start until 1832.Ecclesiastically it was a chapelry of Wantage until 1855.
So I looked in the Wantage PR's to see if I could find anything.
I found 3 Elizabeth Welch's.
1754 29 March d Samuel & Elizabeth b 20 March
1769 8 Dec d Sarah b 21 Nov
1785 May 17 d Richard & Ann b 22 April

3 marriages for a William Rivers
1741/1750 & 1789
1789 12 Oct William Rivers to Elizabeth Becket

Found the marriage you refered to:-
1790 18 Aug
Joseph Wilkins labourer of Kencott Oxon x
Elizabeth Welsh minor of Grove.William Rivers father
Wit William Rivers & William Goddard

Sorry not to have been more helpful!!

Hi Maggie, Do your discs cover Charlbury and Headington. I am not sure if they come under something else from the list you have given.

Probably not.

thanks,

Hi June
Are you certain we are looking in Wantage?
The nearest baptism for a William Brown is 24 Aug 1785 s of John & Mary.Birth 27 July 1785.
There is no marriage for a William in the correct timespan, but marriages after 1813 in Wantage havent been transcribed.
Maybe Hannah came from elsewhere? The marriage would have been more likely to have taken place in brides parish.
Sorry not to have been more helpful.Do get back to me if you think I can look again.

Hi Margaret

Would be grateful if you could look in Grove prs to see if there is a marriage for William RIVERS & Sarah ?? (possibly WELCH) 1770-1790

I have an Elizabeth WELSH (a minor with the consent of her father William RIVERS) marrying Joseph WILKINS in 1790 at Grove.
The only baptism I have found for Elizabeth is 1769 dau of Sarah WELCH at Grove (IGI)....sooo wondered if Sarah and William eventually married.

Gill

Margaret,
Thank you for searching and also for the info on private baptisms.

It's a mystery, I feel sure he's one of Daniel's children, he married in Kensington and two of Daniel's other children also moved to Kensington, one them quite close to Edward.

Daniel's 1st marriage also appears to be hard to track down but then I don't know where Jane came from and they probably married in her home town, if it's not in Oxfordshire it could have been over the border in Buckinghamshire.

Many Thanks again
Annette

Hello Maggi and Margaret (Rose),

Thank you so much for your help.
I have found 16 of Daniel's children baptised at Shirburn (there should be at least 18), some of the baptisms have ptely recd next to them, does this mean privately recorded? If so, could they have forgotten to record some?
Thank you for offering to try elsewhere, perhaps you could try looking for Edward Franklin (c.1808) at Britwell Salome or Cuxham.

Many thanks
Annette
