can anyone find these people for me on the 41 census?
thomas and sarah evans. On the 51 census they are down as 64 and 66 respectively and he was born in london and she in enfield. He is a retired inn keeper. (so that would make their birth abt 1787 ish)
also william wallan (born abt 1811) he is 42 on the 51 census and with the above people. He is a carpenter/joiner by trade and was born in lambeth surrey.
thanks

thanks for that. I am actually repeating things here because im unsure of something. Everyone is being really helpful and im greatful.
heres my dilemma-as far as i know this family is wallan occassionally mis spelt as wallen. On the 1861 census the man in question is with his family and it is transcribed as walter instead of wallan. Looking at the entry it looks like it could have been walter but its been partially crossed out and made in to wallan.
I have this man on the 71 census and probably on the 51 census. His partner and children are in exeter and hes with his aunt and uncle elsewhere. They are unmarried at thispoint but do marry in 56.
I cant find him on the 41 census. I have his aunt and uncle now and hes not with them. Now using the IGI for his birth i also found the one you have given but someone else also found a william walter with dates and place of birth that match.
I would assume that mine is the one born in 1809 but i shouldnt assume anything! how can i go about gaining clarity on this issue?
I hope you dont mind me repeating all this-i remember you have helped me in the past with my aspins which also proved to be a pain!
thanks lou

Did you ever find the answer to this question?
I recently found William in the 1841 census with his sister Ann at Arnold Place, St Mary Newington, Surrey.
Indications of his DoB vary over the years, but I am now happy that he is the 1809 Lambeth entry.
I spent an interesting couple if hours last Friday researching his father, William, c1779-1811, in the Library of the Goldsmith's Comany. The latter William is described as father in the Wallan/Boyce marriage certificate and on his daughter Ann (the one with younger Wiliam in 1841) as a Silversmith.
I can send you more detail about William senior, wife Annn (Hubert), and their daughter by email if you like.
The older William's father was also William to complicate matters and was a Victualler from Enfield, and also from Baker Street, so it may be that his business passed to his son in law Thomas Evans.
There is a 1804 burial entry for a William Wallan, aged 77, resident if the Bell Inn, Baker Street in the St Andrews Enfield Parish records
Best regards
Richard (Wallen)

Hi Richard,
You have progressed very well with your research into the Wallen / Wallan family ancestry & history! Whilst google searching on the name ‘Wallan’ this morning, I recognised the name William Wallan in this Thomas / Evans / Wallan thread, & then upon reading your post noticed a potentially common connection at the Wallan / Boyce marriage.
Spurred on by a scarcity of available information on name & family origin, my family research along the Wallan line began around a stint in London in 1991. With visits to the public records office, I managed to document back to William Felix Wallan / (Sarah … ), noting at the time other potential leads for following up later. We have since added Williams parents, ‘William Wallan & Laura Elizabeth Boyce’. Perhaps the same Wallan / Boyce marriage you mention?
Anyway, if you think we are of, & researching the same family origin, it would be neat to swap connections & notes. I am in New Zealand . Let me know if you would like to do this.
Kind regards,
Stu
