Hi Sylvia -- what kind of information are you looking for? Ancestors, descendants ...?

If it's ancestors, do you know his mother's name and when his parents were married?

Is the info you have from his marriage certificate, or a child's birth certificate, or ...? WWI enrolment papers? He survived the war?

There doesn't seem to have been a William Walter Wilkinson birth reg in Kent around 1886. Might he have been born somewhere else, or possibly registered as Alfred William Wilkinson?

Best to specify what you're looking to know -- and give all the info you do have!

Hi Kathryn,
This is the only information I have which is on his marriage certificate. He probably survived the war because his last child was born around 1918 but was dead at least by the 1940's. Hard to trace because I don't know where he was born and it's a common name. I'm new at this. Thanks for trying.

Hi Julie,

Thanks so much, the names certainly fit and appear to be passed down to other generations. The age on his marriage certificate is 28 in 1914 but I know there are errors all the time.
Thanks again for the jump start.
Kind regards
Sylvia

Redeeming myself --

Name: Alfred Thomas Wilkinson
Year of Registration: 1876
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: Hackney
County: Greater London, London, Middlesex
Volume: 1b

bride on page: Elizabeth Mary Galey

Looks like that couple!

Could this possibly be William, then? --

Name: William Walter Wilkinson
Year of Registration: 1880
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: Poplar (To 1965)
County: Greater London, London, Middlesex
Volume: 1c

Yup, if that 1891 household is them as it certainly seems to be, then that's the marriage; here they are in 1881:

Name: William Wilkinson
Relation: Son
Father's Name: Alfred
Mother's Name: Elizabeth
Gender: Male
Where born: Croydon, Surrey, England

Civil Parish: Croydon
County/Island: Surrey
Country: England

Street address: 3 Theobald Rd
Registration district: Croydon
Sub-registration district: Croydon
ED, institution, or vessel: 22

Thos Galey 25 - visitor
Alfred Wilkinson 28 - traveller book trade
Elizabeth Wilkinson 30
Thomas Wilkinson 3
William Wilkinson -- it says "11 mos"

So that should situate his birth a little better.

Handy of people to have their brothers present for a census!

Maybe he was confused about his name as well as his age?? --

Name: William Henry Wilkinson
Year of Registration: 1880
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Croydon
County: Greater London, Kent, Surrey
Volume: 2a

(I know *my* grandfather was!)
