Great start. I made a mistake though - Tom Wilson married Sarah HART not FISHER. I thought he was born in Chorley but maybe he was born in Blackburn after all and moved to Chorley as a young boy. I do think though he was in Chorley by the time of the 1901 census. |

HAve spoke to a family member who now tells me that Tom Serle Wilson's parents were John Wilson b. 1869 and Beatrice Norse b. 1875 . Tom came from a large family and had siblings called Mary, Hannah, and then Beatrice, Joseph, Arthur, John and George but they were born after 1901 so would not show on census. |

Porkypie your posting at 19:39 is the family I think. I know that Tom Serle Wilson was definitely TOM and not THOMAS. I think he had a brother, as you have found, who died at a young age. There was an Edwin too in the family and then it seems he had two brothers and sisters who died soon after birth but they were born after the 1901 census. |

Dont dismiss it because it says Thomas instead of Tom -the census enumerator who came to the door would ask the name and if told "Tom" would write what he thought to be the correct name instead of a "Shortened "one. |

Sorry Gillian not sure where your info. fits in. Tom Serle Wilson as far as I know was born in c.1897 That is definitely the name I am looking for not Norse. I think Tom's mothers name was Norse. Is this where you have got mixed up or am I not looking at it right? |

Heather, Gillian, has noted that she thinks the middle name Serle was handed down the family from his mothers side as the record shows a rellie of hers (Her Father) was names Tom Serle Norse |

Thanks for clearing that up and yes, I can now see what you mean. I often wondered where that name came from, certainly not a common Lancashire name!! i was told that Tom Serle Wilson had family way back from Denmark (?) but not sure of this. |
