Find Ancestors

I am trying to find a James Wilson.

I have found him whilst he was married, but information differs from census to census. In 1881 he was 35 and born in Hesketh, in 1891 he was 44 and born in Wigan, and in 1901 he is 56 and born in Mawdesley.
In each of these he is married to an Elizabeth and the children are the same an in the correct order, so that is what makes me so sure it is the same.
I am trying to find info on his marriage and his parents but have hit a brick wall. Is anyone out there able to help?

Yup! That is the James I am looking for. Though I think the Catherine should be 12 months as opposed to 12 years
going by what other information I have.

As for his wifes maiden name I'm not sure. There is a possibility he married twice as in 1901 the Elizabeth he is married to was born in Dukinfield and not in Wigan like all other years. I have Lloyd as a possibility if the Dukinfield is correct.

Well that could well confirm my suspicion on the marriage being correct, however with no grooms father present I think it might come to a halt there.

I know its four years ago since this was posted, so I thought I' have another go at solving James Wilson. Sadly I am still stuck at the same point.
If he was born in Hesketh like the 1881 census says, then the only birth I can find is this one but its way out for an 1846 birth. (Tareleton is the sub district for Hesketh but comes under Ormskirk on a wider scale)

There are no births covering the Mawdesley area which comes under Chorley for a 1846 birth. However all I know for sure is that there is no father listed on his marriage certificate, so his mothers maiden name must be Wilson, but as I doon't know anything else like first names, ordering birth certificates wouldn't help much not knowing any names to compare with.

Does anyone out there have any more suggestions?

Don't make the mistake of assuming that James's birth was actually registered.............

I suppose if he was born illegitimately as his marriage certificate suggests then hiding a birth, i.e. not registering it is a distinct possibility. If this is the case I am guessing the chances of me getting any further back are slim.

I wonder if this is the baptism for that birth of a James Wilson in 1840????

That's quite a gap between Ann and Edwin ............ which does seem to indicate a) James married a second time , OR b) Edwin is not his son, but the illegitimate son of one of James' daughters!

Edwin was actually the youngest child of Edwin Lloyd Sr (Elizabeth's brother), and as Edwin Sr's wife died in the same year as Edwin Jr's birth, I therefore assume that Edwin Jr was brought up by James & Elizabeth Wilson.

I am wondering about this James who was born in 1840 - His mother is Hannah (which is interchangeable with Ann !)

I have found a marriage in 1953 between an Ann Wilson and a James Caldwell, and living with them in the 1861 census is a James Wilson who is 20 (this ties in with the 1940 one near enough). James Wilson it says is born in Hesketh and is living in Mawdesley which are two places that have lins with him.
The thing that is bothering me is the differing ages on later census records, most of the later ones seem to have as a c1846 birth as mentioned before.

1871 with James and Ann Caldwell (born Tarleton lancs) is James Wilson (Hesketh Bank) 29 a basketmaker!!
