CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 6 Jan 2011 15:54

Hi Peeps,

Trying to find a marriage for a Peter Wilson & wife Elizabeth.

Unfortunately i do not know where Peter was born. All his & Elizabeth s children were born in Liverpool, starting with son Peter born 05/10/1782.

Then Betty 1787, Lydia 1790, Sophia 1792, William 1796.

I have looked pretty hard....but cannot find a marriage to match a date around 1782 in Liverpool of folks named Peter Wilson & Elizabeth.

I have a suspicion he may have come from Scotland to look for work in the docks of Liverpool. To this end i have found single marriage of a Peter Wilson & Elizabeth Duncan in Edinburgh in 1781.

PETER WILSON
ELIZABETH DUNCAN
Marriage: 03 NOV 1781 Canongate, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.

Now...I am thinking...they came from Scotland..as they married in Edinburgh....then moved down to Liverpool to look for work. Once they found a place to live and got work..they then decided to start the family.

Peter being 05/10/1782.....almost a year to the day after the marriage of the Scottish Peter & Elizabeth...would seem very plausible.
But i dont know how to prove it....any ideas most welcome please.

Peter & Elizabeth are my
Grt Grt Grt Grt Grandparents.

Thanks

Hi Paul,
Sophia & Lydia's births are on Non Conformist indexes.
I don't know if that would make a difference when looking for their marriage.

Hi Mike & Kath....sorry havent gotten back..didnt think anyone else would post.

Yes thanks..i had all the birth & bapt dates ..but thanks for posting.

Its just I cant find a marriage in the Liverpool area which fits the correct names and date before the 1st childs birth..Peter/

All of Peters descendents were Shipwrights..all the way down to my grt grandfather..John who died in 1908. Even some of the siblings were shipwrights..and those the female descendents married.

Even my grandfather was in the navy...not sure doing what...as i cant seem to get a comprehensive reply from my last remaining uncle as my father died in 86.

I was hoping the marriage in Scotland may have been that of my Peter & Elizabeth..but it appears not.

But there just doesnt seem to be one....odd as all the children details seem to be easy enough to find..yet the marriage.?.......

I am hoping it isnt Liverpool again...really hoping for a a scottish link.

Cheers guys & girls for the input..most welcome. Thanks :)

My most famous link comes via Peters grandaughter Anne Wilson.

She is the grt grandmother of Frederick Fleet..the lookout aboard RMS Titanic when it sank who spotted the icebreg...or not as the case is....
"Iceberg Right Ahead"

He survived the sinking and manned lifeboat No.6..but commited suicide in 1965 after his wife die in dec 64. He hanged himself from the cloths pole in his brother- in-laws back garden.
He was buried in an unmarked paupers grave ..but in 93 the Titanic scociety purhcased a headstone for him with a picture of the Titanic on it.

I am also related to Joseph Scarrott...another seaman aboard Titanic...He also survived and manned lifeboat No 14 which contained Molly Brown.

I maybe related to 2 more seaman..but yet found not link...but still possible. Bertie Wilson and William Sevier.....both went down with the ship.

Hi Ann,

I am really hoping for a scottish link.

Hopeing Peter came down from scotland to look for work in the docks...but I just can't find his marriage.
At least i cant find a Peter marrying an Elizabeth in Liverpool....

That might be the Peter from the marriage to Elizabeth Duncon mentioned above....

Thanks anyway... :),...all helps
