If you want to confirm the surname you might need to order another of the children's birth certificates.

How can she be mother in law ? i do have the files of both 1901 and 1891.
My partner and I believe it is a misprint by the registry .

Has it been typed out? This is her birth cert you're talking about? What was her father's profession?

On my grandmother Sarah's certificate says " Maria Ramsbottom " formely " Fick "

Yes.........no people called Fick at all anywhere I can find.

I think it's Leek too.

The 1881 census has two Mary A. Leakes who are away from home and servants.

If you get the marriage cert it will tell you her fathers name and occupation which will make it easier to find them on the census
