Mike. The Leicester Lad.(GC) Report 17 Sep 2008 23:19

Greeting's again Ken.....

Just Cut & pasted this off a site
which might help ?

Did you know? Today's professional rugby football team in the city of Leicester is known as the Tigers.
This has a regimental connection. In 1825 the regiment, which at the time was known as the 17th Foot, was given the honour of wearing the insignia of a tiger superimposed with the word "Hindoostan", in recognition of its long stint in India between 1804 and1823. The regiment began to be popularly called the Tigers and the name had since stuck. In WW1, the Leicester Brigade (110th Brigade of 21st Division - see above) was known as the Tigers.

I fact my District Scout Badge I wear
Leicester South West is of the Hindoostan Tiger........

Hello Ken

Don't know if you have looked here

http://www.leicester.gov.uk/your-council--services/lc/leicester-city-museums/museums/newarkehouses

Am led to believe they also have a database you can look up, I am hoping to go over to Leicester in the coming weekends so may be able to help you out but definitely worth sending an email I would have thought

Hi Mike

I applied to the Army for the records of my Uncle Robert Edward Timson who was in the Tigers c1920-1936. 30 pounds later they told me they can not find them! I believe that he went to India with the Regiment. Now the question - do you know if the Tigers went to India during this time and if so the period that they spent there?

Thanks
Ken

Hi Mike

Belton, Loughborough! (grovelling now after leaving the early morning message)

Have got the dates from the disc and a fellow Moore but he doesn't give background details which is why I was interested in the register entry for the last 2, so any info would be great. If you are busy, the marriages can wait, just want to establish they are mine. There must be another George and Ann looking at a couple of other Baptisms on the disc but My William and George are baptised at Whitwick (sons of George and Ann too) and my George's marriage has John Biddle as a witness

Thank you as always
Elaine

Hi Mike..

Tks again for all the info..

I feel all the Bunney folk , how ever they spell it , are related, even with the missing info on Saxby, there does not appear to be many in the area. When you look at the 1841 census most are from the Little Dalby area, which looks as though its just down the road a couple of miles.

The search continues...

Once again many tks for all your help..

Cheers.

Karen Report 15 Sep 2008 08:38

Hi Mike

Tks for cfming the info......

The thing with William and Mary being Ann's parent, going from the dates of the 3 children you mentioned they are much too late.

After looking again on the IGI I found a marriage for a 'Mar Bunny', 16 May 1787 at Saxby, one would think that they were sisters...
I have also found the burial date for Ann Harley, nee Bunny,(from National Burial Index) which is 29 April 1829, age 62 at St Margaret Lei, which fits in with the marriage of 1787..
I then did some more IGI searches and found a Ann Bunney bap1765 at Little Dalby and also a Mary Bunny bap 1760 at Little Dalby, daus of George Bunny and Ann.
When looking at the 1841 census I found a George Bunney age 85 ( bc 1756) in the LITTLE DALBY area and found he too was the son of George and Ann of Little Dalby....
What do you think...

Looking forward to hearing from you... when possible...

Cheers
Karen of Brisbane

..if its all too long winded just let me know...

Mike. The Leicester Lad.(GC) Report 14 Sep 2008 23:43

Greeting’s again Karen.

Confirmation of the Marriage :~

Phillimores early Marriages Leicestershire Parish.:~

St Peters Parish Church Saxby.

Henry Harley. Parish of Buckminster.
Ann Bunny. ( suspect register will state " of this Parish " )
24th. December 1787.

I.G.I.

Strange I could only get to this Marriage via I.G.I. Batch No’s by using the Brides surname …….and it gave Henry’s name as you stated
Me think a need to look at the original registers then…..

With regards to Bunny’s within Saxby…… then spotted the following :~

1773.William Son of William & Mary Bunny…..Bapt……. 10th. Oct.
1775. Edward. Son of William & Mary Bunny….Bapt…..25th. Feb.
1778. Margaret. Daughter of William & Mary Bunny …Bapt. ..24th. May.

So…Could William & Mary be Ann’s Parents ?
Doubt if we’ll prove that on two counts
Early Parish registers were very basic not a lot of details given to be sure.
Plus on that Marriage Disk it stated that the early Parish Registers for Saxby
Had …….er….” Gone Walkies !!! “ …..:o/
