Derek, sorry I haven't got back to you re the Gerrards. My husband's father was very sick and has since passed away. Will be back to you next week. Had sent away for certificates though before all this happened, so hopefully we'll have some more info soon.

I'm going to send away for the marriage cert. for Sarah and Samuel. Hopefully, that will provide at least a father's name for Samuel. Hello Diane......have been doing quite a bit of work on this......the fact is that Samuel Gerrard was not baptised at Bradbourne....therefore i have not yet found his parents. This is curious..because in 1841 he would be 19.
The BRADBOURNE 1841 Census shows clearly tha MARY GERRARD aged 50 is a Miller and farmer of 50 acres at Bradbourne Mill..andcontinues to be so until she dies.....She is shown as married in 1841.as widow in 1851.but there is no husband in 1841.

Interestin thing is that in 1841 she is the only Gerrard who could possibly be a parent for SAMUEL 1822...but there is no baptism for him..

Her other childre are:
John 1815 (married to Elizabeth)
Elizabeth 1818
Joseph 1820 (married Ann Barnsley 11.02.1858)
Mary 1821..remained unmarried.
Judith 1825
..and reasonably Samuel would slot in very well at 1822 ???????..thats' one for me to sort out.

Interesting thing about Lea Hall..it was only ever three properties, and nobody would ever have been baptised there.....and in 1841.there were only three families there...no Gerrards.

Samuel 1822 as you know did marry an have the children you know about.

Sorry, didn't realize you would get right into this!! Should have mentioned then that I have John and Hannah's children, but I do not have Hannah's siblings. Great job! John Ensor's father at a guess may be Richard, married to Sarah Bowler, but not confirmed.

Elizabeth b 1851 is on the 1851 census, after that gone. George, I have for all the censuses, incl. 1911, as well as John, just not a death date. Sarah Ann, I also have all the censuses. She is the main one in my ancestry chart. She marries Samuel Blackwell, after having three children (all known) with an "unknown". This name I would dearly love to have as well, but understand it will be an impossible task. I have all info after that. Samuel's side was the one giving me a headache!

Hi Diane.......I actually sent you a message on my other Derbyshire thread....but I can repeat it here..........

I will be more in a position to confirm my info later tomorrow..but for the moment..........Ballidon Brassington Bradbourne and Lea hall sre all in the same area. Lea Hall is a hamlet in the Parish of Bradbourne.

Samuel Gerrard appears to have been born at Lea hall 1822..but have not been able to find his parents yet.........

He married SARAH ENSOR 1850..and they had the four children you name..........hopefully i can give you their baptism dates and places tomorrow.

Sarah was the eldest of SEVEN children of JOHN ENSOR (1794-1885) and hannah Blore (married 1819) amd i have her siblings.

Sarah died 1886..and Samuel 26.03.1889

Their son George born 1853 died 1913

Derek - I am really new to this and not yet "versed" in how to send messages (thank you for your help) Noticed that you have access to Derbyshire Records and wonder if you can assist.

I have a Samuel Gerrard, b1822 in Bradbourne, Derbyshire. One census mentions Lea Hall. Have been in contact with someone researching Gerrards and she was quite excited over the Lea Hall connection; however, none of her suggestions match my research.

I have him married to Sarah Ensor in Jul, Aug, Sept of 1850, and in the 1871 and 1881 censuses. Children are Elizabeth, b apr of 1851, George b 1853, John b 1855 and Sarah Ann b1861, all in the Bradbourne / Brassington area. His occupation was journeyman miller of corn. There are several Samuels to choose from in that area, all millers, however.

Any assistance in finding his parents would be appreciated. I am in the midst of applying for his marriage certificate, and quite possibly I have jumped the gun asking for help.

Hi Joan....ok...easiest way is to Google Yesterday's journey....and click on the very first entry.........I think Yesterdays journey is specifically derbsyshire.
But there all sorts of other goodies "available online"....on the Derbyshire lookup exchange site...
If the entry gives a name of a contributor then you have to ask a specific question via EMail ,which is clumsy

This is a tip!! for all the lovely people who contact me about Derbyshire.....Google "Derbyshire Lookup exchange"....If you work your way down the list..you will find "Yesterdays Journey"..its completley brilliant an may help a lot.
Also, when you scroll down you will see quite a lot of stuff that is available "Online",and leads you to all sorts of unimaginable goodies.

It is part of the "UKlookups exchange"....but Derbyshire appears far and away the best part of it.......
