Hazel.....ok..major success..the last named Thomas Holland in the message below.married Elizabeth Hardwick of heage 18.12.1843

and baptised their daughter Priscilla Ann Holland at North Wingfield 20.07.1845.

My North Wingfield disc does not go beyond 1837 so i had to duck and dive a bit!!

I am so overcome with my brilliance that i now have to have a large Scotch!!

Hi Derek

I know no more than you - except the spelling on the 1861 census is Sicybrna, which could be anything. I suppose I need both Hannah's birth cert and her marriage cert.

In case others are reading this, the reference that Derek gave me for the marriage certificate is not the reference to use for certs from the GRO at Southport, but for the local register office that covers Salford.

Hi Derek

Sorry I haven't got back to you sooner about the Tattersall info you found for Baslow. You say the last to be born there was a son of George b 1792 and the last burial was in 1800, can you give me details of these please?

Many thanks
Kathleen

Hi Madness!!..you are aging me day by day!!

This is a challenge!!..at the moment i can only confirm that Hannah Oldfield was baptised Tideswell 02.01.1839.....daughter of Cicily...spelling as given.............no father.......

Lancashire BMD's also0 confirm the marriage of Joseph brightmore to Hannah oldfield at Salford in 1877........the reference number is C27/13/278......that would get you the marriage certificate from Southport and would confirm Hannah's parents.

I'll continue slaving on your behalf!!..

ADDITION 22.53........I have the same two Samuels as you have.and the "wife of henry" note that you mention........but to be honest...I;m dubious.....if henry and Selina married in time to produce Samuel 1826.........why would it be Cicily in 1839 with no father......unless she had been very naughty????? and although the first Samuel died in infancy..why would the 1831 Samuel's mother become Cicely??????

Madmeg Report 16 Sep 2009 00:19

Hi Derek, hope you had a great time in Scotland. Can I please remind you about Hannah Oldfield. I am now repeating myself, sorry.

Joseph Brightmore b 1829 married Ann Robinson who died in 1876. He then married Hannah Oldfield b 1839 Tideswell, in Salford (don't ask, but I am pretty sure it is right) in Sep 1877, and they had a daughter Selina b Tideswell 1880.

It is the origins of Hannah Oldfield that I am concerned about. In 1841, 1851 and 1861 she is with her apparently widowed mother Selina (with various incorrect spellings), which would seem right as Hannah named her child Selina. There is also brother Samuel age 9 in 1841.

I can find a Henry Oldfield marrying Selina Mellor 16/5/1826. Son of Henry and Selina, Samuel ch 12/11/1826, d 25/2/1827, and another son Samuel ch 18 Sep 1831, child of Henry and Cicely (not Selina). The only plausible Hannah is ch 1/2/1839, daughter of Cicely, no father given, but the CD notes "wife of Henry".

Do you have any evidence that Cicely is Selina?

Best wishes

Margaret

Hi Derek :-)

Indeed - you are a slueth D - the connection fits perfectly - fantastic ;-)

The reason why I am just a little surprised is as to why others haven't twigged sooner? This isn't just a small family of descendants from William Longden b:1740....I had a good look at the tree over 3 years ago sorting out my link to said William of 1804 - I am just a bit agog and that near on one day back seeking out the mysteries of the Longdens that the answer has been in front of us all this time.....I gabble on...excuse my being hesitant in allowing it to sink in ;-)

Also William Longden b:1740-d:1822 left a Will by the looks....how wonderful to be able to read it! I have never ordered a Will before or know how to go about obtaining one - or what cost is involved???

Cheers - Steve Campbell.

Note: The name of Dorothy was passed down on different sides of the family - but not on all....no trees that I have looked at have William Longden b:1740 as being attached to any spouse - he appears to be alone - just maybe Elizabeth Moorehouse took a shine to him :-)

Hi hazel.........have found isaac at heage.near Belper:

ISAAC JEPSON baptised Heage 26.05.1844..son of Isaac and Ann Jepson.

Two Jepsons at Clay Cross that may or may not be part of your family:-

George Jepson married Ann Bennett 18.09.1843

David Hill Jepson married Hannah hargreaves 05.04.1855.

These marriages took place at Clay Cross and registered at North Wingfield..

Have since found Isaac Jepsons marriage to PRISCILLA ANN HOLLAND at North Wingfield 09.08.1863.

Hi Derek :-)

Fantastic stuff - Again - BIG THANK YOU DEREK ;-)

You know I think you may very well be onto something - I have been googling all sorts of sites on the web - and yes I know you cannot believe everything you read - but what do you make of the following pieces of info - I'd love confirmation and other Longden decsendants thoughts on this William maybe being ours - m?!

Richard Longden married Dorothy Hodgkinson on 9th Feb 1736 Wirksworth - They had a child William Longden bapt on 20th August 1740.
Through google I have found that Williams mother Dorothy died on the 20th January 1780 and is buried at St John's Winster - as are two of her siblings.
Is it not more than reasonable to deduce that William Longden bap:1740 moved with both or one of his parents to Winster and settled there - hmmm?
The only thing is that the name of Dorothy doesn't seem to have been passed down within the family tree [could be wrong though]....seems an interesting senerio - I wonder ;-)

Thoughts :-)

Cheers - Steve.

Hi Hazel........are you suggesting that thomas was aged 52 when he sired George.....I need to know how accurate your data is.becasue Clay Cross records became merged with North Wingfield in about 1860. I have the North Wingfield Records but not Clay cross.

Hi Steve....No luck with Mary wife of William Moorehouse...they were married in a different parish.as was Anthony Burton.....actually we're very lucky to get both names before about 1780...often just the fathers name was shown on baptism records..

However i have found WILLIAM LONGDEN 1740.....but since i never tell anyone that something is a fact unless I have proven it 100%..I have to add the caveat that this is extremely likely but not quite proven

Everywhere it show William Longden born Winster 1740..but he was DEFINITELY NOT baptised at Winster..but he was, with above caveat..baptised at Ible (Wirksworth ) 20.08.1740 son of Richard Longden and Dorothy (nee Hodgkinson) who married at Wirksworth 09.02.1736. She was born in Bakewell 1712.
There are no further entries for this William..and he is the ONLY William Longden born in the whole of Derbyshire in 1740 or indeed 5 years either side.....so it is very tempting to accept this man as your William.I present to you the facts..its up to you. But you ain't going to get closer!!

Better news for ANN CLAYTON baptised Winster 06.02.1743, who, with her sister Mary (16.09.1739) was the daughter of Joseph Clayton and his wife Jone(nee Moorhouse!!) who married at Winster 20.02.1736

Later on tonight I'll send you the baptism dates and some deaths of all the children previously mentioned.

Hi Derek – FANTASTIC – BIG THANK YOU :-)

I’m not surprised that there is no bapt record re: William Longden b: c1740 – This explains the full stop that I have found when seeking him out –> sigh….a well.

Derek I did some googling today and found on the Winster site a wonderful photograph of William Longden & Ann Burton’s gravestone [not sure who posted it??]. William Longden died 11th February 1863 & Ann Burton died: 23rd January 1842 Ann aged 62 years – It has written that William was aged 84 – but as we know exact ages are not always known even by close family members – he would have been closer to 88 years of age at death.

The maiden surname of Gamble for Hannah has been a mystery by what I can see when reading bits and bobs of other trees – I love knowing the maiden surnames of my female ancestors…very frustrating that in many instances in years gone by it was more than not overlooked – HUGE thank you for this.

Speaking of maiden surnames can I be a very cheeky monkey and ask about - Elizabeth Moorhouse bapt in 1742 has parents written as William Moorehouse & mother as Mary [Unknown maiden surname] on IGI – any likely suspects amongst your OPR resources for mothers maiden name and a possible marriage date for her parents??

More cheekiness – Ann Burton’s bapt 1780 father Anthony Burton on [IGI - though not sure of accuracy naturally] I believe he may have been born around the year 1747 – again any likely suspects??

Again Thank you D - Any bapt - burial - marriage records with thoughts in general -> all eagerly recieved.

Cheers - Steve Campbell.

William m Ann Clayton 17.08.1767

Hi Derek :-)

Oooh Ah - thats most generous - Thats like a carrot in front of a rabbit - *Naughty Wink ;-)
Um - Now where do I begin - m?

I do have all sorts of bits and bobs sourced from all over - and in time would love to have a read of any of the original documents [michrofiched - L.D.S] - but if you are able to expand on any of the below information would be terrific and a massive bonus.

The following is I believe my line to be.

William Longden b:c1740 [No parents regarding this William have been located I am led to believe] he married
1st: Ann Clayton c:1767 [no record of there marriage by the looks] there children are as follows.
Joseph Longden b:1768
Job Longden b:1769.
Ann Clayton died c:1771 [no death record].
William Longden remarried on the 2nd June 1771 [St John's Winster] to Elizabeth Moorehouse b:1742 - daughter of William Moorehouse & Mary [Unknown] .
William & Elizabeth had the following children.
Mary Longden b:1772.
Hannah Longden b:1777.
Ann Longden b:1781 - d:1787.
Elizabeth Longden b:1784.
and William Longden b:1775 - d: Feb 1863 who married Ann Burton b:1780 - d:1842 - daughter of Anthony Burton & Hannah [Unknown] - they married 30th December 1799 at St John's Winster.
There children are as follows.
John Longden b:1800.
Hannah Longden b:1802.
William Longden b:1804 * My line.
Mary Longden b:1806.
Samuel Longden b:1807.
Anthony Longden b:1811.
James Longden b:1814.
Joseph Longden b:1816.
George Longden b:1819.
Ellen Longden b:1821.
[ Obviously no television in those days;-) ]

Thats more than enough me thinks - Big ta for anything D :-)

Cheers - Steve Campbell.
