Mike. The Leicester Lad.(GC)

Mike. The Leicester Lad.(GC) Report 20 May 2009 22:36

Greeting’s Again. Robert.

I understand that the Father’s were not named on Marriage Certificates. Before 1837.
After 1837 ~
Is when the Register is more or less the same as we see today.

So if there was a “ Barsby” named as a witness
on Richards Marriage certificate it followed it might not be his Father
it’s more likely to be a Brother Or Sister or Mother.

I’ve had a look around but drew a blank for a Baptism for Richard
But we got lucky for Eliz Ludlam.
If her age on death was right ( b c 1788) then this is her Parents:~

St: Peter’s Parish Church Oadby.
BAPTISMS ANNO DOMINI :~ 1788
Elizabeth Daughter of Richard & Jane Ludlam. ………. Bapt 30th. March.

But……… We’ll see what transpires from the Registers

Now on the Draper History
I see that on the 1801.& 1811. Head Count ( Fore runner to Censuses )
for Bruntingthorpe.

1801.
John Draper. Ag. Lab.
1 Male
2 Females.

1811.
John Draper. Ag. Lab.
3 Males.
5. Females.

Hope this keeps you going for now.

Greeting’s Again. ….Dewdrop.

Ummm ?............ I would be a bit wary of them !!…….

Is there away you can check them out via Business Directories. 1st. ?

If they want money up front then I would be very cautious………

A lot of these so called Professionals……promise results. ……..
but do not come up with the goods…….

Which with modern day Family History on line It’s possible for you to find out the details you want even if it takes a while to get it.

Try and set up a personal meeting with them
with you having a witness with you
And ask for some proof of what they have found
before you part with any money .

But at the end of the day the choice is yours. ….
If you wish to take up their offer. ……

Hi Mike,

Sorry if this is long, but would value your opinion please

I think i may have finally found a wife for my Thomas Cooper, i know you wont remember that far back as you do so many look ups, but you helped me discount a Alice Shuttlewood.

Thomas Cooper born abt 1766 is only on the 1841 census, So Leicestershire is the only birthplace i have,
he dies in 1848 and buried in Burton Lazars.

He married twice, first to Alice ? with 7? children and then Mary ? with 3 children, all the children born Burton Lazars

Today i found a marriage on Free Reg in Stathern, Thomas Cooper of Harby married Alice Geezing 9 Jan 1788,
a child Thomas is baptised 11 Feb 1788 in Stathern, the only child of theirs born there and would make it 8 children with Alice

IF this couple are my Thomas and Alice they moved to Burton Lazars and the next child is baptised 23 Aug 1789,
Their youngest child Ann is my 2x great grandmother, born 1804

Alice dies in 1805

Thomas marries Mary ? where? when ?

Mary is on the 1851 census as born Stathern, their first child Ruth born 12 July 1812 Burton Lazars

I have found a submitted entry on IGI, giving a marriage of 1811 and looking at the family group record,
the baptism of a Elizabeth Harris on 29 Aug 1813 with Thomas Cooper and Mary as parents. Could Harris be Marys maiden name or a previous marriage ?

Now Harby and Stathern are pretty close on the map and Stathern and Burton Lazars are about 3 hours walking distance according to Google.

Thank you for any help

Sylvia
