Scottish census on Ancestry can be searched by occupation but unfortunately they do not have the images.

Findmypast does not have the Scottish census.

I have been reliably informed that Find my Past will be making their census records searchable by occupation but I dont have a date for this

Sorry about the delay in answering, but good weather and an allotment mean links with the outside world have centred on looking at the possible use of solar power to pump water from water butts, and granddad was neglected
.
Thanks for all your help.

How does one trace a pedlar? In the 1911 Census my Grandfather was described as a pedlar from Midlothian, born 1877.I cannot find other details.
