HI Reg's g. grandfather was the brother of my ggg grandfather William Varney b1840 Aylesbury.so I am a descendant but many times removed. I also loved Reg in On the Buses, even before I knew we were related. Also my brother is a bus driver. regards Carole

Thanks for all your hard work
I do have some certificates
My biggest problem is George Varney aged 3
Staying with William & Elizabeth Varney he is their Grandchild
Their daughter Selina Varney ne Varney gave birth to him and his sister
Elizabeth.

George Varney c1841 is their father.

However it is his father that I can't connect to make the whole thing right.
On Selina and George's marriage cert it says that Henry is his father.

And William is her father.

So where do I find Henry Varney father of George
Would love to make this connection.

I'm not seeing a connection with your families. It could be the Needham side who had the disease.

Angela, as explained, you need to be working backwards through solid facts you know and seeing if there is a connection. This requires buying certificates.

Sorry if I have repeated myself,

My Grandfather was John Leslie Varney
also known as Les , or LJ Varney.

He had milk bottles with his name on them
He was farming at Kennel Farm, Little Missenden, Bucks.

His father was George Varney
His mother was Ellen Varney ne Stonell
She was married before to a Mr Dancer.
Most of this Varney line farmed around the area and lived nearby.

Thanks for your interest

You are probably right about the disease being misdiagnosed years ago. Especially as the symptoms are alike.

Glad to hear you are keeping well

Thanks for all the infomation, I will try and make sense of it all and hopefully join the dots to get them together
Didn't really want to go into HD v St Vititus Dance, but Doctors weren't very good at separating any of these types of illnesses.
HD was a rare desease at one time so not usually picked up as different
A lot of village Doctors would only see one or two cases in their life time.
My line knew it as "Varney" desease.
My Father called it St Vitus Dance so did an Aunt in England.
Doctors aren't always right even these days, sometimes get it wrong.
My husband was being treated for heatburn and ended up in hospital and had to have surgery for his heart.
My Doctor didn't have an HD patient on his books until I appeared.
He's been waiting 20 years to see the the first signs
I do however have a specialist Doc in this field to

Many thanks

Angela.

Can you post your grandfathers details and then someone will be able to trace back for you to see if they can find a link

Googling St Vitus Dance also called Sydenhams chorea is associated with rheumatic fever. RF usually starts with a strep throat or tonsillitis. It has similar symptoms to Huntingtons but the main problem is damage to the heart valves
It doesnt say it is hereditary.

Huntingtons disease used to be known as Huntingtons chorea from the Greek for choreography or dance. This is an inherited disease

Angela Report 14 Sep 2009 07:11

That was quick where are you.
I am in NZ

The desease is written in his book as St Vitus Dance, this is now known as Huntingtons of which my Mum died of.
My sister and I both have it now.
Would love to make the connection because I think we deserve to claim someone famous in our tree.
He came from London which isn't too far from Bucks.
What do you think?

How do I go about finding out if my mother's line of Varney is connected to Reg Varney (actor and comedian).
I have read his book and his sister Bella had a hereditary desease, just like my Mum's, her family came from Bucks.
Apart from the surname my Grandfather was also quite short for a man.
Many thanks
Angela
