Australia is like Canada .............

a) records are kept province by province (or state by state), so you have to know where someone lived.

b) both countries have MUCH stricter privacy rules on when information such as bmds can be released to the public.

so, no matter which genealogical site you go to, you will find it more difficult to find and access records within the last 100 years.

FMP does have an Australian site, which seems OK.

Hello Peter, welcome to the boards.

Two things - firstly, you mustn't post email addresses on the boards - it's not a secure site and you're putting yourself at risk of spamming and idiots. People respond to requests on the boards, not by email. If anyone did wish to contact you privately then they just click on your name to send a private message.

Secondly, you need to start your own thread rather than tagging on an old one where it will likely get overlooked. Go to the front page of the appropriate board (probably Find Ancestors) and click "Add Topic". Would be a good idea to read the "Help Clinic" link under TOOLS over on the left of these pages to get an idea of how to get the best results for your request.

Good luck.

You might have a better chance of getting a response by starting a new thread on the Find Ancestors board. rather than on this old thread Stephen. ;-)

Stephen

I would change what Graham posted to say .................

you WOULD have a better chance of getting information if you started your own thread instead of piggybacking on this old thread ................

but I'm sure that you know that, anyway :-)

And I'd also suggest to Stephen that when he does start his own thread that he adds the word Australia to the title so that the people best able to help him spot it quickly.

Martin family thread. It's best if Stephen were to add to the thread he already has rather than start a new one. That way there will be no duplication of research.

Graham, Silvia, MarieCelest and Detective.

I've now gone back and added a summary on the Martin family thread

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/genealogy_chat/thread/1348639

But will try and start up a new one here with a cross reference if you think that will be better.

Thanks, stephen

Probably best not to start a brand new thread. After all, the OP of the original does state "we are pretty sure he emigrated to australia". The background research is often done so that we can work forward. If its all in one place, Helpers can read and build on it rather than having to start again.

Joonie had found what it probably the passenger listing that you couldn't find and you have now summarised the research and formulated what else you need help with.

If you wanted to, you could edit your Opening Post - make sure you don't Delete! - and alter the title to include 'Australia'
