I had the same problem as Beverley. Completed the registration and received the confirmation email. I have the five digit code but no bar code which it is requesting. Looks like I will not be able to access the site as I also live overseas.

Jackdaws.......why don't you email the libraries and say that you would like to access the newspapers for Family History purposes only and would they let you have a card.

You used to be able to sign on even when not living in the U.K. That has changed and you now have to have a U.K. address to register.

I signed on a couple of years ago and still have access.

Jackdaws.......You need to have a library card....the one you use to take out books. There is a number on the back & that's the one you log in with.
As you don't live in the UK i would suggest that if you have a relly here that you get them to get you one or if they have one ask to use their number.

How do you receive your pin number?

I have applied many times over the last year or so, but never receive a pin
number either by e-mail or post.
I get the initial e-mail confirming application and then nothing.

I do not live in the UK, but have seen posts here for others getting a pin
number and not living in the UK.

Am I doing something wrong or missing something??

Just as an example

The 19th C British newspapers has a clip from The Darlington Echo which said that my gt gt grandmother had died in 1870 whilst peeling potatoes for dinner.............. a truly hazardous occupation you will agree

The new British Newspaper Archive has the paper from the town where she lived in Alnwick and this has a much longer report which gives more info, what caused it, who found her, where, what her physical appearance was etc etc

So whilst the first collection is good, you might find more in the second if you know what to look for .

All libraries offer this service across the country. You can access a whole lot more than just the papers of Lancashire !!

I'm still waiting for my card to arrive!!
I bet after this tip they've been inundated so I'll give them another week then I'll contact them.
Really looking forward to checking out the papers (I know of 2 ancestors that were at The Old Bailey!!)
It's good of them to allow non Lancastrians to join though - they could make a small fortune by charging!!

Just to add...when researching don't confine to just looking for articles in the county/town where ancestors lived.

My ancestor in question lived in Cheshire however I have found articles written about him in other newspapers all around England.

In comparison for me anyway...I found 15 newspaper articles regarding an ancestor (all good I hasten to add!) using my Lancashire library card...thank you again Jonesey :-D

Where as on the BNA site I have found a mere 3...2 of those I had already found through using my library card.
