I was hoping to be able to access the Burnley Library Lancashire..For the Old Newspapers... i joined up with them & did get a reply from them today.

This is my Reply......Thank you for your application. Unfortunately membership is only available to residents within the UK.............I live on the other side of the world.

Originally i thought outside of UK could apply.

Many UK libraries will allow library members to access the site; certainly members of Glasgow District libraries can access the site with their library membership number and bar code. Very well worth joining your local library for this reason alone; newspapers from all over the UK are accessible, check out the list.

Unfortunately there is no simple answer. All that you can really do is examine the newspaper article looking for clues that might assist you in deciding whether or not the person named is your ancestor.

You might also check to see if there are any more reports in any other journals detailing whatever the incident was. Just as today I have found that newspaper reports were often syndicated or copied by other publications so it is possible that there are more details to be found.

Stupid question-how do I prove that this is my Ancestor that I have found in the Newspaper? Yes, the name is the same, correct area as far as I know, is that proof enough though?

Having said that , I've just found out one of my Great Grandfathers was an embezzling thief :-0 He was had up on at least two different occasions , I dread to think what else I'm going to unearth !

Follow these instructions:

Once you log into Lancashire Libraries site click on "Online Reference Library" on the left hand side of the page.

The click on "19th Century British Library Newspapers" on the left hand side of the page.

Enter your library barcode number and press "Proceed".

From there click "Browse Publication Title" and click one one that interests you. Then away you go.

Researching:

If you go back to the first post on the thread it gives you the information you need to access the library. There is a link mentioned, copy and paste it into your address bar and take it from there.
