Alison Report 8 Nov 2010 09:07

Local historic newspapers are a wonderful source for family historians and can often be searched free of charge through your local library membership.

A selection of news items from centuries past in North-East Scotland is posted regularly at genegenie-scotland.blogspot.com

Ths report appeared in the Aberdeen Journal of 7th November 1810:

Some weeks ago William Farquhar, fisher from Port Gordon, was accidentally killed by falling over a rock while engaged in the herring fishery at Wick. On learning this melancholy accident, Mrs. Burn, the wife of George Burn Esq. Architect, residing at Pulteney Town, very humanely raised a subscription among the Ladies and Gentlemen of that place, and collected 16l. 14s. 6d for behoof of his widow and children.
